Luke was very knowledgeable about the products and gave us suggestions about what product we should use to match our property, and that we should leave a small garden in case we need to replace our fence. Once the concrete is placed, the clock is running. Finishing window is tight — particularly in Melbourne's varied weather conditions.

That's why everything before the pour has to be perfect. Formwork set precisely. Reinforcement positioned correctly. Mix design confirmed. Team briefed.

Rushing preparation to make up time creates problems you can't fix once the concrete has set. We don't do that.

We've seen the aftermath. Hairline cracks at month two. Full surface failure by year three. Then the call to rip it all out and start again.

The cheapest quote is never actually the cheapest option. It's just the cheapest number on a piece of paper.

Another north-eastern Melbourne driveway done the way we'd want it done.

This one's in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs — an exposed aggregate finish paired with clean crisp borders and excellent drainage fall.

The homeowner's brief: "Make it functional, make it low-maintenance, make it look good." Three reasonable things to ask for. Things we delivered.

The truth about concrete curing that most people only learn too late.

Concrete doesn't dry. It cures. And the curing process doesn't end when the truck drives away.

Day 1–3: Initial set. The surface can be damaged easily.
Day 7: Approximately 70% strength reached.
Day 28: Full design strength.

This is why we don't let vehicles on a newly poured driveway for at least a week. This is why curing conditions — temperature, moisture, sun exposure — matter.

If a contractor tells you to drive on it in 48 hours, ask them why.

Plain concrete: lower upfront cost, shows every mark, can become slippery when wet, looks dated faster.

Exposed aggregate: natural slip resistance from the stone surface, hides surface wear better, ages gracefully, suits Melbourne's outdoor lifestyle.

Neither is wrong. But understanding the difference before you decide matters.
