A special PSA to all EHG preorder customers and anybody who’s been holding out until these arrive!

We’ve just received news that the pressing plant is now ready to ship. Some titles are completely sold through / allocated and so any excess titles that we’ve ordered are our absolute last copies to go around.

Due to the lengthy pressing plant delay on these we are highly unlikely to restock these titles at all this year, so once they’re gone they’re gone.

If you’ve been holding out until these arrive, we are unlikely to be able to accommodate you amongst our remaining numbers unless you secure a copy in advance now.

Our remaining stock is as follows:
Dopesick – 5 **pressing sold out**
Take As Needed For Pain – 10 **pressing sold out**
A History Of Nomadic Behaviour – 3
Confederacy Of Ruined Lives – 2
In The Name Of Suffering – 2
Preaching The “End Time” Message – 3
Self titled – 3
Southern Discomfort – 5

A huge thanks to all for their patience with this, it has been a frustrating release for all involved. We’ll be packing these up and firing them out the door as soon as they arrive.

Last copies available via www.blacksound.com.au.

Today’s staff picks come courtesy of our youngest member of the crew, Noah. Noah likes punk, ripping riffs, and when they’re not helping out at the shop is probably at a sick local AA show.

Class Traitor – Calving MC
This sludgy post-metal debut EP from 2021 features members of local bands Blood On My Hands, Religious Observance and Munt.

Iron Reagan – Demo 2012 12” MLP
What started out as a side-project by members of Municipal Waste and Darkest Hour produced this sick 5 track demo and kickass example of crossover thrash.

Flores Nucleares – S/T 7”
Mexican raw d-beat, released on DIY record label Doomsday Records. Like most d-beat, the lyrical themes of this 7” are based on the horrors of war and its impact on mankind.

You can find these in the racks 10-6 today, or purchase them online via www.blacksound.com.au.

Some of you know all about the Warp Zone but don’t know the Enoz Praw.

Martyr is the absolutely legendary Québécois technical death metal band led by Dan Mongrain (Voivod, From Wisdom era Gorguts, etc).

Debut full length Hopeless Hopes was originally self-released in 1997 and helped change the landscape of the ‘tech’ death scene at the time.

Remixed for 2026, and to better match the sound of later albums Warp Zone and Feeding The Abscess which would have been recorded with a much larger budget (the band being 17-23 at the time this was recorded), this is the first time the album had been available at all in over a decade.

Hugely influential, uniquely and unmistakably Québécois, this record is a must listen for fans of Obliveon, Voivod, Gorguts, Ulcerate, Atheist, Demilich, Lykathea Aflame, Timeghoul, etc etc!

You may enter the Enoz Praw 10-6 today, online via www.blacksound.com.au.

Having had the chance to now give this a few solid spins it brings me great pleasure to say the new Godflesh album slaps hard.

I didn’t have a great deal of expectation going into this, being a project now in its so called ‘twilight’ years, but anything by Justin Broadrick rarely if ever misses.

Decay is equal parts brutal, subtly atmospheric, and an absolutely crushing listen in the sense of both its physical and emotive output.

I didn’t expect this to land on my personal year end best list, but think it very likely will. Highest of high recommendations to all fans of Broadrick, Godflesh, industrial music at large, and you (probably) etc etc!

You can grab a copy in store 10-5 today, online via www.blacksound.com.au.

Today is CD Store Day!

One of my favourite memories as a kid was going to the record store and buying CDs with my hard earned cash. Sometimes I wouldn’t know a band at all, but an album had a cool cover / I’d roll the dice and that would be how I discovered new bands.

Anyway we’ve got a bunch of cool stuff in and you can come visit the shop 10-6 today, online as usual via www.blacksound.com.au.

Well holy moly. An incredibly heartfelt thank you to everyone who made it out for last night’s exhibition opening, purchased a print or zine (or other bits from the shop) or simply enjoyed the show.

Scimitar by tarek_dem will be on until October 21. If you want to take one home with you forever, note that a large number of originals have sold but plenty more are still available. The zine is sold out for now, pending a bonus printing.

A huge thanks to Tarek, and The Mill Brewery for their support once again.

We’re open our usual hours today, 10-6, and are online via www.blacksound.com.au.

Some interesting new electronic, drone, new age and noisy sounds from Softer Recordings / Tone Log.

CCNT – S/T
Guttural, coarse and unpretentious Arp Odyssey and processed soprano sax improvisations come to a head in this drone, occasionally scronk and composed noise recording. Available on LP or tape.

MARV – MARV
Electronic, ambient, minimal new age duo of keyboardists Nathan Taylor and Geoff Schilling.

Dave Public – Cladosporium Suite Parts I & II
Plunderphonic / mangled vhs tape collage works compiling forgotten trash and unheard sonic artefacts spanning 1977 through early 00s.

Nathan Taylor – Life Is But A Dream
Hypnagogic late-nite atmospheres for lucid dreaming. Pure electroacoustic organ, synth, wind and tape mangling.

Axximilation – Demo 2010
Obscure demo tape of hardcore noise verging on breakcore and black metal.

You can pick these up in store 10-6 today or online via www.blacksound.com.au,

Today’s staff picks come courtesy of Jamie, who’s picked out some certified thrashers. When Jamie isn’t helping out at the shop, he’s recording / mixing bands or playing in his own ripping death metal band Vile Apparition.

Grave New World – The Last Sanctuary LP
Members from seminal Japanese Hardcore bands such as Asbestos, Crow, Last Bomb and Crisis Kill who on this sole release collaborate to deliver a twisted mix of hardcore, crust, metal and post punk/experimental influences.

Psychrist – Embrace Rapture In Disgust CD
The first full-length by vital Canberra death metal stalwarts. Originally recorded in 1996, it was unfortunatley caught in pre release purgatory and didn’t surface until 1999. A must for fans of Misery (QLD), Morpheus Descends and Brutality (Tampa).

Sacrifice - Forward To Termination LP
Essential Canadian metal, Sacrifice’s sophomore album can be considered just as potent of an influence on later extreme metal as it was on its then contemporary thrash scene. The great norths answer to Dark Angel, Forward To Termination is just as ripping today as it was when it first hit the racks in 1987.

You can grab these 10-6 today, or online via www.blacksound.com.au.

Coming up this week! On Thursday from 6pm we welcome tarek_dem and his new exhibition Scimitar.

Born in Beirut in the late 1970s, Tarek came of age against a back-drop of conflict and chaos. Confined indoors during the war years, he built his own creative universe — Lego, drawing, fantasised weapons and
war machines. From an early age, the pages of Métal Hurlant became a portal to another world — Moebius, Druillet, Caza and Juan Giménez feeding a visual imagination that was already hungry for the dark, the fantastical and the extreme. These were the seeds of an obsessive visual language that would define his work for decades.

In 1989 he moved to Paris, plunging into graffiti in his early teens. At 13, he bought his first record solely based on the cover — Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast — a moment that crystallised a lifelong fascination with the dark, fantastical imagery of metal album art. Paris opened the doors to a whole wider visual universe that had been out of reach in Lebanon — one he consumed voraciously and made entirely his
own.

Now 48, his practice spans graffiti, painting, installation and tattooing. He pushes a subject to its limits, until it becomes automatic — then abandons it. Like an album played too many times, he sets it aside,
only to rediscover it years later with fresh eyes. Restless, prolific and allergic to repetition.

Since 2015, tattooing has become a central pillar of his practice. A discipline he had long been fascinated by, finally pursued — and one where all his influences converge. A craft governed by collaboration and
client vision, it operates under different rules to his painting, and he embraces that tension.

Dark, unpredictable and impossible to categorise, Tarek remains one of the most singular voices to emerge from the collision of street culture, comic mythology and fine art.

Scimitar opens at 6pm on Thursday October 8, with refreshments provided by The Mill Brewery.

We’re open 10-6 today as usual, online via www.blacksound.com.au.
