Can you believe this is 2021! Time flies when you are having fun indeed. I can't believe that I have stuck with a hobby for so long and learned so much. I have met the most amazing people, done things I never even dared to dream. All because I vowed not to kill another house plant but to educate myself and keep them alive!!

What a trip! What have you done that has changed your life in a shocking way?

I 'm not saying that all new roots are fuzzy, but there is nothing like fuzzy new roots to let one know that the transition from soil to leca is probably going well!

What signs do you look for that tell you a transition is working?

The Long Method. My Thai Con here is going through the long method. I take the potting mix off the roots, give it a wash and put the plant in a rooting solution. In my case I use Growth Technology AU Clonex Clone Solution and Root zone. You can use any rooting solution available to you. The idea is to allow the plant to develop roots adapted to the hydro environment and shed off some of the old roots that rot off. Changing the solution weekly is good practice to get the most out of this method. It allows you to get rid of the sloughed off roots and replenish the spent nutrients and air. Using an air stone connected to an air pump supercharges this method.

I've been in the houseplant game for a few years now. I've seen and done some things! This is my beautiful Monstera albo. It has recently had a chop and this is the tip cutting. Things are looking really good. I have had this plant since 2021 and it has grown beautifully for me in leca. You can see the image where it was just a single leaf still in potting mix. I spent a stupid amount of money to buy that one leaf, and I was still finding my feet growing in leca, so when I moved it to leca things went very badly. I almost lost it, the roots melted and I had a conniption! Thankfully I was able to save it and it has grown on to dizzing heights and has been chopped up many times over the years!

Here's to resilient plants and plant parents!
