Bentleigh – Heritage Charm, Contemporary Design
Behind the charming weatherboard exterior of this traditional Bentleigh home, we transformed a dated bathroom into a spacious, eclectic retreat, combining clever space planning with contemporary design.
The key to the transformation was making better use of the existing footprint. By opening up the previously unused space beneath the staircase, we created room for a bathtub and concealed in-wall toilet, freeing up valuable floor space.
An awkward nib wall tucked into the corner, which previously doubled as a linen cupboard, was also removed. This opened up the room considerably, allowing us to create a generous walk-in shower without compromising the sense of space.
The centrally positioned vanity became a focal point, while thoughtfully placed downlights and integrated LED strip lighting added warmth, depth and character. Together, these elements created a distinctive, eclectic interior that feels both practical and inviting.
As is often the case with older homes, the renovation came with its challenges. The existing floors were significantly out of level, and the walls were far from straight. Our standard preparation process involved removing the existing flooring, correcting the levels and installing new 19mm compressed cement sheeting to provide a sound foundation for the renovation.
These challenges were addressed without additional cost to our clients, reflecting our commitment to delivering quality workmanship without unnecessary surprises.
The result is a remarkable transformation — a once tired and awkward bathroom reimagined into a beautiful, functional space full of personality, where every available centimetre has been thoughtfully considered.
