When renovating a heritage home, the goal isn't simply to add something new.

It's to create an extension that feels considered, functional and right for the way you live, while complementing what is already there.

And sometimes, smart design means knowing what you don't need.

Look at this backyard entertaining area.

With outdoor living space extending around the back of the home, the design uses a lift & slide door to create a generous indoor–outdoor connection.

But around the side of the house, a completely different combination was more appropriate:

🚪 A single hinged entrance door provides practical access without the cost and space requirements of a double door.

And then there is the old perception that uPVC is bulky, plastic-looking and only suitable for smaller windows.

Ventilation is an important part of creating a comfortable and healthy home. The challenge is knowing where, when and how much ventilation is needed, while still achieving the thermal, acoustic and aesthetic performance the building requires.

That's why the choice between opening and fixed windows matters.

Awning, casement or sliding windows can provide natural ventilation where it's needed, while fixed glazing can be used where the priority is views, natural light, aesthetics and thermal performance.
