Galkangu (Bendigo Govhub) creates a key new public realm in the heart of Bendigo, centralising the delivery of a range of government services. A unified customer service area, concierge, open cafe and exhibition spaces will enable connections and the delivery of services for the community. Our design for customer services features a singular, continuous counter, enabling a hybrid model of service. Featuring an innovative exposed timber structural frame, the building provides multiple opportunities for viewing surrounding nature, creating working spaces that are naturally warm and comfortable. Large flexible floors, fewer walls and integrated departments help to break down operational silos and encourage sustainable and productive ways of working.
Galkangu is located on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

The Saint Teresa of Kolkata building at ACU is a student-focused campus, with a permeable and open design that allows students to easily move between lecture halls, social areas and study spaces. An abundance of gardens and greenery provide spaces for respite and fresh air – a necessary feature of the vertical campus design.
The lower levels of the building provide a range of student focused spaces built with flexibility in mind to enable student collaboration, individual study or casual occupation. An urban ampitheatre on the street level is designed as a space for informal gatherings such as lectures and speeches – a sort of ‘speaker’s corner’. The collegiate life of the university is supported with an array of self-serve kitchens and casual lounge areas. For extracurricular activities, a rooftop multi-sport court is provided on the eighth level of the building, with a fully netted enclosure, change facilities and equipment storage.

“The architects are constantly challenging themselves. I get the impression that they’re never quite stopping or resting on their laurels. There’s always somebody coming in with a view that is upping the ante, which I think has been really good.” - Sean Henriques, Program Director, Edith Cowan University (ECU).
We’re excited to be on board with ECU City, the boundary-breaking Edith Cowan University campus in Perth, designed by Lyons in collaboration with UK based Haworth Tompkins and Perth based Silver Thomas Hanley. ECU City will breathe new life and energy into the city’s business, cultural and entertainment precincts.
Quotes originally appeared in ArchitectureAU, January 2022 issue.

Anzac Day, 25 April, is a day of national remembrance.
This year, the Australian War Memorial will mark the 107th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
Today we honour and remember the sacrifice of our brave servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice during wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations.
Lyons are pleased to be contributing to the new development plans which will ensure the Australian War Memorial has the necessary space to tell our nation’s continuing service stories, for all generations and visitors, as they commemorate and understand Australia’s experience of war and operations.
We are leading the CEW Bean Building Extension (pictured), which will include a new world-class research centre, more space to house the Museum’s extensive archives, as well as offering visitors welcoming, light-filled spaces.

Recently, Lyons Director, Corbett Lyon spoke at The Architecture Symposium: The Hybrid House, held at the Daylesford Longhouse
Corbett spoke of Lyon Housemuseum, a Lyons-designed project that speculates on the conjunction of art and living, challenges conventional notions of public and private and explores relationships between art and architecture through a new hybridised type – a ‘housemuseum’.
The museum pays homage to a lineage of private art collections, notably Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and is a true testament to the passion projects that are ever-present in the minds of our architects.
