It may be Christmas Eve, but the team at Fitzgerald Solid Plastering is hard at work restoring a Richmond icon.
The National Bank of Australasia was built in 1886-7 by renowned bank architect Albert Purchas.
Today the team is fixing major cracks in the building’s facade, rebuilding heritage moulds and reinforcing the structure.
It’s a privilege to be involved in the restoration of this historically significant landmark so it can continue to be enjoyed by generations to come!

It may be Christmas Eve, but the Fitzgerald team is hard at work today restoring this Richmond icon.
Originally built in 1886-87 by renowned bank architect Albert Purchase, the building was once the National Bank of Australasia.
We are working to help restore the site to its former glory including rebuilding heritage features and reinforcing its structural integrity.
What a privilege to be involved in this project to give some much-needed TLC to a Melbourne landmark!

Meet our owner Sean Fitzgerald.
With 43 years’ experience under his belt, there aren’t many plasterers out there that can match his knowledge or expertise.
Born in Jersey in the Channel Islands to Irish parents, Sean believes in the motto “done once, done right.” It’s a work ethic that’s held him in good stead for more than four decades.
His speciality is hard plastering in the traditional style his father taught him, a skill he loves passing onto a new generation.
His favourite Irish saying is “nil aon tintean mar do do tintean fein” - There’s no fireside like your own.

“Daz” as he is fondly known, has been a Plasterer for 16 years following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father.
Daz is passionate about his craft. His speciality is restoration work. “I love taking something old and dilapidated and breathing new life into it, turning it into a piece of architecture that a whole new generation can enjoy.”
