Dressing Room | Concept Renders

Storage rarely gets the spotlight, but this dressing room is anything but average. We'd love to spend a few hours in here outfit planning, having a glass of champagne or simply reading a book by the window on the daybed. Did we mention the built-in vanity? heaven.

Caulfield Home Renovation | Under Construction

Our Caulfield renovation is officially underway with Teak Building Group.

This 1970s family home is being transformed with a new kitchen, updated bathrooms, new flooring throughout, and reconfigured living spaces designed to better suit modern family life.

Construction is where every design decision starts to come to life, and it's exciting to see this project taking shape.

Stay tuned as we share the transformation from demolition through to completion.

The right architect should feel like a trusted collaborator—someone who takes the time to understand how you live, what matters most to you, and how your home should support your lifestyle for years to come.

Just as importantly, it's worth recognising the warning signs. Be cautious of vague timelines, unclear processes, limited communication, or designs that don't genuinely respond to your brief or your site.

A great working relationship is built on trust, transparency and collaboration from the very first conversation.

What the New 7-Star Energy Rating Rules Mean for Your Home

If you're planning a new home, knockdown rebuild or major renovation, the new 7-Star NatHERS requirements will influence your home's design from day one.

It's about far more than insulation.

• Building orientation
• Window placement and glazing
• Shading and passive solar design
• Insulation and ventilation
• Year-round comfort and lower energy bills

The best-performing homes achieve 7 stars through thoughtful architectural design—not expensive upgrades added later.

Hampton | Concept Renders

Welcome to our Hampton Project, a soft-toned Renovation to an Existing Private Residence aiming to modernise the space while adding soft curves, and a hint of bronze throughout.

Dating back to roughly 2001, the existing bathrooms were a key space needing to be demolished, and refit as well as the addition of a few ensuites to ensure each bedroom has a private bathroom.

The colour palette includes Dark Bronze Fixtures and Fittings, Soft Lighting, Beige Tiles, and Soft Toned Cabinetry and a Feature Solid Surface Countertop to finish off the space. This makes the space feel noticeably larger and brighter, even within the existing footprint.

The goal isn't a trend-driven refresh — it's a timeless, considered bathroom design that feels light, calm, and elevated for years to come.

Fifteen years in, and I'm still learning — not because I got it wrong, but because mastering a skill depends on our ability to test, try, fail and grow.

I'm unlearning things I was certain of when I started like the need to have an answer for everything, and the belief that good design means getting it "right" the first time.

Instead, I'm relearning what actually matters: protecting space for ideas to evolve, allowing decisions to breathe instead of rushing them, and trusting the vision to ensure a strong design intent for each and every project.

Most of what I have learnt didn't come from a textbook. It came from practical experience, hours at the computer, and sitting across the table from people who felt stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin, and watching them arrive somewhere they never thought was possible.

Those moments taught me that uncertainty at the beginning isn't failure, and no one should have to navigate the process alone.

This isn't a list of lessons, or a guide to getting it right. It's simply a collection of honest reflections and reminders to myself or others in the field about how we evolve as designers to best serve our clients.

BENTLEIGH EAST | Site Progress

What started as a feasibility study, a blank site,
and a vision for two Japandi-style townhouses is now standing.

The bones are here.

The ceiling heights, the light, the connection to the garden
— you can start to feel all of it taking shape.

This dual townhouse development has been a long time in the making. Watching it rise is one of the best parts of the job.

Over Budget? Don't panic... it's more common than you think. So what happens next to get things back on track?

It's time to make a few considered adjustments.

As Architects, value-management is part of the design process. It's not about cutting corners, it's about understanding where to invest and where you can save without compromising the integrity of the design.

At Formery, we like to do a budget check in via a Cost Estimate at a few stops along the way to ensure we're in alignment and falling roughly within 5-10% of the target figure at all times.

The easiest way? cut out m2. Reducing size is over and above the best way to reduce the overall cost of your build. Already tight on space? read this table to see which areas we'd target next.
