If you've never worked with an Architect before, it's normal to wonder — what does the process actually involve and is it right for me?

Here's how we work at Formery, and why it feels different.

📝 Every detail is considered and intentional
We don't make design decisions casually. Every material, proportion, and finish is chosen with a reason and that reason always comes back to you.

📝 Design leads, styling simply supports
We build from the inside out. The foundation of your home — the layout, the light, the flow is resolved first. Everything else follows from there.

📝 Spaces are shaped around real daily living
We ask how you actually live before we design anything. Your routines, your rhythms, your family, these aren't afterthoughts. They're the brief.

📝 Simplicity brings clarity to the process
Working with us should never feel overwhelming. We guide you through every stage with honesty and structure, so you always know where you stand and what comes next.

📝 The end result feels calm, honest, and lasting

Not trend-driven.

Not designed to impress anyone but you.

This is how Formery works. If it resonates, we'd love to hear from you.

One of the most common questions we get asked is:
"How much will it cost?"

And the honest answer? — it depends.

There are a lot of factors which determine how far your budget will go, for example, what is the level of finish: low-mid-high end? what is the scope of work? how many m2? how complex is the build? is it a sloping site?

The list goes on.

This is why we obtain a Cost Estimate at the Concept Phase, not to limit the design outcome, but for a brief reality check to ensure we're all on the same page prior to moving forward with detailed documentation.

This is critical to ensure minimal VMs, and less rework, saving you $'s.

A budget that feels too small for one project is often more than enough for another — it just needs the right approach from day one.

Want to know what is possible for your budget and build? Book an Initial Consultation via our website. We will provide honest advice and practical next steps so you can get started sooner.

A courtyard brings light, privacy and connection to the outdoors, while a pergola transforms outdoor living into an extension of the home.

The spaces between architecture matter just as much as the rooms themselves. Thoughtful outdoor design creates homes that feel connected, functional and timeless year-round.

If you’re building or renovating, prioritise the way your home flows from inside to out. It changes everything.

BENTLEIGH EAST | FACADE

Two townhouses, one thoughtful design.

This dual-lock townhouse development in Bentleigh East was designed with quiet intention. High ceilings to draw the eye upward, large picture windows offering a connection with the garden views, and side courtyards for enhanced privacy on a restricted block. Soft, warm finishes carry a sense of comfort through every room, while upstairs, the Primary Suite with a feature gabled ceiling creates a calm, spacious retreat.

Looking into property development? We can provide a feasibility study to unlock the potential of your site and increase resale value.

"How much does an interior designer actually cost — and what am I paying for?"

It's one of the most common questions we receive. And it deserves a real, honest answer — not a vague estimate or a number pulled from thin air.

Here's the truth: there is no single answer.
Great design is tailored to you — your home, your brief, your scope —
and so is the way it's priced.

Swipe through for an honest look at how interior design fees work. ➡️

There are a few ways fees are typically structured, and understanding each one helps you ask the right questions before you commit to anything.

Hourly Rate — Best suited to smaller scopes or advisory-style engagements. You pay for the time spent, and the scope stays flexible as your project evolves.

Fixed Fee — Agreed upfront based on a defined scope of work. Predictable, transparent, and ideal for projects with a clear brief from the start.

Percentage of Project Cost — The fee scales with the size and complexity of the project. The more considered the scope, the more comprehensive the service.

What matters most isn't which model is used. It's that you understand it fully before your project begins — so there are no surprises, no confusion, and no guesswork along the way.

At Formery, we walk every client through our fee structure before anything is agreed. Because clarity from the very first conversation is how trust is built — and how great design begins.

A bathroom should feel like an exhale.

Not just a room you move through — but a space that genuinely resets you. Where the morning feels a little quieter and the evening a little slower.

This is a glimpse inside the bathroom from our current Caulfield renovation. Every surface, every fixture, every proportion — placed with purpose.

Your biggest expense isn't an Architect.
It's the mistakes you make without one.

You start with the best intentions — saving $'s, finding a location, building a Pinterest board. Then somewhere along the way, a shortcut is taken. A step gets skipped. A tradie ghosts you. The brief never quite gets resolved.

Then the REAL costs begin.

Not just financial — though those are very real — but the cost of delays, decisions fatigue, regret, accumulated stress, and a half-finished home.

Here's the Design Pricelist nobody talks about 👇

❌ Skipping the Planning Permit
Council isn't the enemy. Unapproved works can mean stop-work orders, costly demolitions, or resale complications that can linger for years.

❌ Hiring a Builder too early
Without a complete, documented design, everything is open to interpretation and costs can blow out.

❌ An incomplete or confusing Brief
If you can't clearly communicate what you want, the design process becomes a guessing game, costing time, money, and trust.

❌ Unlicensed Trades on Site
Short-term savings. Long-term liability. Insurance won't cover it.

❌ Poor Design Documentation
Vague drawings create vague outcomes. The difference between intent and result can be significant.

❌ Disliking the Outcome
The most painful cost of all. When the process wasn't right from the start, no amount of styling fixes a space that was never properly designed.

The good news? Every single one of these issues is avoidable.

A structured, well-guided design process isn't a luxury — it's the thing that protects your investment, your timeline, and your peace of mind.

Get it right the first time with Formery.
