It’s easy to make a call at the start of a job based on how something looks or what fits the budget.
What tends to come up later is everything that wasn’t as obvious at the time, how the deck handles exposure, how much maintenance it actually needs, and whether it’s being looked after the way it was intended.

Some materials hold up well with the right care, others get neglected and start to show it pretty quickly.

Two decks can be built the same way and end up very different a few years down the track.
