Ampol has agreed to buy Evie Networks for about $225 million

Evie has more than 1,000 charging bays. Added to AmpCharge, that's about 1,425 bays. The deal still needs ACCC approval and is expected to finish in the first half of 2027.

We look at why the deal makes sense, how it could strengthen Ampol against BP Pulse, and what it says about the next phase of EV charging in Australia.

What we learned genuinely surprised us...

⚡ Australians in V2G trials are on track to earn $2,000–3,000 a year from their parked EVs.

🌷 The Netherlands has already commercialised vehicle-to-grid. You can walk into a dealership, buy an EV, install a bidirectional charger and start using it. Australia is still working through pilots.

🏢 The cheapest place to install EV charging isn't where most people think... it's underground apartment car parks.

🚗 A world-first Australian charger can rescue a stranded EV in around 15 minutes, without a tow truck.

📈 Meanwhile, EVs have now surpassed 20% of new vehicle sales in Australia.

The biggest takeaway?

The technology is moving faster than most people realise. The challenge now isn't whether these ideas work, it's how quickly we can scale them.
