Are you confused by what an energy rating actually means?

A higher star rating does not automatically mean a “better” house.

The star rating actually measures thermal performance: how well a home maintains comfortable temperatures without relying heavily on heating or cooling.

It doesn’t measure:
· Overall sustainability of the building
· Durability of materials
· Construction cost
· Build quality

A home could achieve a great star rating, but still have design choices that create other challenges.

Ultimately, it helps occupants understand how different design decisions affect thermal comfort.

This includes window placement, glazing types, insulation levels and shading.

The good news? Small design changes can improve performance significantly!

Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) district officer Brent Allen said firefighters had spent much of the weekend extinguishing separate fires before the latest blaze ignited. The cause remains unknown, but Mr Allen noted the ignition point was similar to a fire that started on Friday afternoon.
