The hardest part of an extension isn't the new build. It's fluidity of the join.

At Sawyer's Gully, our task was clear; create a whole new master retreat, but seamlessly blend old and new. The original home keeps its sandstone character, the new retreat gets its own, and the walk between them is fluid.

The join isn't something to hide. It's something to feature.

If done wrong, exterior finishes are unforgiving — every join, every set-out, every line is out in the open.

On the Pokolbin build that meant full-height stacked stone columns and timber cladding worked into the gable, with the batten screen carrying it through to the entry.

Built to still look this good in twenty years.

There was a clear outcome to achieve at Sawyer’s Gully.

Created a seamless link between the existing house to an ultimate master's retreat.

The two central challenges with this:
1 - Ensuring the join was coherent to the existing structure.
2 - Making the retreat itself flow functionally without compromising on the client's brief.

The outcome was a beautiful and fully functioning masters retreat with a private bar, living room, and outdoor area.

And best part? Upon when driving in, you'd assume it was all built at the same time.

An extension only earns its place if it makes the whole home better.

Not every build starts with us.

Finishing someone else's takes a different kind of care.

We came to rebirth this Pokolbin build after a previous company went bust, leaving our clients in limbo. What it's become now: an elegant pavilion design. The pool takes centre stage, with U-shaped design wrapping from the living area right through to the main suite. We were intentional in building a seamless indoor to outdoor-flow onto the alfresco; a place made for slow afternoons by the vintage golf course.

Built for the way the Hunter Valley lives — unhurried and social.

The last two weeks of a build decide how the latter years feel.

We're wrapping up on our Mount View project, with handover close. This is the home stretch - final checks, walk-throughs, every finish looked at twice. Rush it and the little things follow the family in.

We'd rather they never think about them at all.
