We advise our clients to do this even though our license is valid. Our contracts include a section for you to check a box that you have checked our license. Transparency is important.
No license means no guarantee on the work they provide. Always cover yourself by taking that extra couple of minutes to license search.

Before you sign a contract or pay a deposit, take a few minutes to check a contractor's licence. It could save you thousands!

Recent reports of alleged contractor fraud on the Gold Coast are a timely reminder that licence checks aren't just a formality. They're one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself from financial loss, unsafe and defective work, and deceptive conduct.

Using the QBCC licensee register allows you to confirm:
✅ the licence is current
✅ who it is issued to
✅ the licence class and any conditions
✅ history of infringements

Always make sure the person you're dealing with is the licence holder by sighting their physical card or digital licence. Don't solely rely on gut instinct or recommendations, take a few minutes to verify a licence.

Have you heard about the Community Closet? 👗 Located at 10 Carlyle St in town, this beautiful shop is run by Skip, an absolutely gorgeous angel who has a big heart and gives good conversation! 😍

They have a range of clothing from babies up to adults for FREE for our community. No proof of income needed, they understand that everyone is struggling in this economy. This is open to absolutely everyone in the community, regardless of background. They are also always accepting donations too - the perfect place to take some of those larger baby items and women's and kids clothes that we are unable to take! 🐥

I walked away with a small handful of clothes (plus sized clothing is ridiculously expensive, so this was a welcome relief! Thanks to my schizoaffective meds I'm constantly gaining weight, so am always in need of larger clothes) and I felt great after a lovely chat with Skip. She is incredibly generous and encourages you to fill your bag! It was a really warm and enjoyable experience ☺️🫶🏽

She's open from 8-2 Monday to Friday. Head on down and enjoy this wonderful community initiative ☺️

Attention Clients and Prospective Clients:

Some things to consider when undergoing renovations on your property. If a Licensed Builder is not contracted to arrange or oversee works, please note an Owner Builder permit may be required by the QBCC to avoid the owner being fined for unlicensed building works.

What is an Owner Builder:
Person/s undertaking or supervise a building project valued at more than $11,000 on:
• your own land
• company-owned land if you are a company director
• land that you lease (if you have permission from the landowner).

Estimating the value of your project
Add together the cost of all materials and labour you need to finish your project. Note that you must work out the trade
price for these items, including GST.
This means that if you are getting the work done at discounted rates or for free you need to estimate what it would cost to hire a licenced contractor to do the work (including GST).
You also need to find out the retail cost of materials (including GST), even if you have picked them up for free or bought them second-hand or from a salvage shop.
If your project will cost more than $11,000 you need an owner builder permit.

Also always be sure to check QBCC licenses of all trades you engage. Works for each trade over $3300 including materials must be licensed. Also licensed in the class of works they are undergoing. For example, Dobbs Tiling Pty Ltd is licensed in Floor and Wall Tiling and Waterproofing.

Dobbs Tiling Director and Tiler Sheryl is thankful to the support of Damien, Craig of coastal living and other businesses for supporting the female tradie in me. Even our girls love being mini Dobbs tiling team members. Learning the trade and being onsite in the beginning was daunting. You feel you have to prove yourself to other trades or worried about stereotypes. I admit I have been asked where my male supervisor is, told how woman should not be onsite. Of course not by builders but a residential client. Even told to leave site. Fear in me after this when going into houses did nearly get me down but craig and Damien pulled me through. But with the support of the male role models around me supporting this onsite and office role I have became more confident. Even if i nag the boys more than they like 😊 I still may not trust myself in certain completion tasks but that’s where Damien and I tag team jobs and he has my back in completing those aspects to ensure we uphold a high standard quality finish. Thank you to everyone who supports our company.
