The Macedon Ranges is tracking ahead of schedule this year. Grasses are already moving and despite some late frosts, the signs are there that the garden will kick off earlier than usual.

Soil preparation done now pays dividends once temperatures lift consistently through September. A slow-release fertiliser or organic soil conditioner worked into beds before spring growth begins gives plants the nutrients they need exactly when they start to demand them. For lawns, a pre-spring feed now supports the root system before the surge of growth arrives.

A new addition to the range at Macedon Nursery & Garden Supplies. These kiln-dried hardwood briquettes are made from compressed recycled hardwood sawdust, dried to under 10% moisture, which is significantly drier than standard firewood including red gum.

The practical difference is noticeable. They ignite quickly, burn hotter and longer, and produce considerably less smoke and ash than traditional firewood. The consistent brick size also makes them easy to stack and store. Suitable for indoor fireplaces, fire pits, pizza ovens and grills.

Available in store now alongside the red gum firewood and kindling range.
