How to keep your surplus of seeds fresh!!!
I use moisture absorbing satchels which are placed in plastic container with the seeds into a sealed container and kept in the crisper of the fridge …seeds can be kept mould free and fresh for up to 3 to 4 years. Try this one. It’s so easy for all those who sow far too much seed like me..

The Hoverflies …feed exclusively on nectar and pollen. These are found world wide!!!
As they dart from bloom to bloom, they transfer pollen and help plants reproduce. In fact, they are widely considered the second most important pollinators globally, right after bees. Because they are strong flyers that migrate long distances across Australia, they help maintain genetic diversity across large regions..
Also another benefit is the juvenile form looks like a legless maggot which feeds on the garden Aphids, Thrips and Scales.. so it’s best to encourage these guys..no spraying of pesticides!! And plant more pollen rich plants.. they’re loving the blossom of my plum trees atm.. so benificial..✅✅

The 🐝 have decided to swarm..so what does that mean for a hive full of bees and honey .. and why does this happen..
in a society of bees there is the queen.. her job is the lay eggs both female workers bees and male drones who’s job is to mate..the worker bees collect nectar and pollen from flowers, they build the hexagon structure and fill them with honey a process that’s quite ingenious and feed and look after the young..the queen will lay eggs of virgin queens and the the queen detects a virgin queen has hatched she decides to leave and the workers take a bunch of honey and some drones with scouts leading the way to find a place to occupy (this is swarming) looking for a tree hollow or an empty hive.. sadly this is how bees go ferel.. but luckily I managed to catch them in time when they settled on a branch.. and into a new hive they go..

Nothing says spring better than a field of yellow Daffodils.. like sunshine.. the warmth and scent is just divine.. Happy spring..
this is a clients garden and these daffs were planted 40 years ago, such an easy resilient and giving bulb.. plant some today.. potted bulbs are available in your fav nursery.. ..

Barber’s Pole Oxalis (Oxalis versicolor), also known as the candy cane oxalis, is a charming, small bulbous perennial plant native to South Africa that features striking red-and-white striped spiral buds.
I’ve only seen these in a few collectors gardens in Mt Wilson in Mt Macedon and the Dandenongs and I believe Stephen Ryan has a few unique beaut species in hes nursery Dicksonia rare plants.. worth a visit..

Snails and those blue pellets ☠️
It’s one thing over the years especially that I’ve become to realise that we have all been conned into thinking that those magic pest sprays were there to solve all our garden problems especially in the 70s 80s and 90s and well yes everything else that’s alive and living that these pesticides came in contact like soil microbes to birds, mammals and us.. it’s poison.. and it damn well says it on the bottle.. and it damaging to the environment or kills..
And I see this all the time that we think we are doing good in getting rid of the pests.. but we need to look for safer alternatives or just don’t grow that problem plant, vegetable, rose, tree..
With the blue pellets they contain Metaldehyde a chemical compound that damages the mucus cells of snails and slugs. It causes severe dehydration and death another Chem Methiocarb a powerful neurotoxin pesticide that disrupts the nervous system of pests.
The blue dye and a bitter agent is added to prevent birds and pets from eating them.. Satain bower birds collect blue.. I’ve seen numbers drop in the past in gardens.. and wrens..sadly..

The alternative safer organic pellet is a natural Iron
disrupting a snail’s calcium metabolism and digestive system, causing them to stop eating and die.. has low toxicity for birds, mammals, and other non-target wildlife. but really don’t apply too much and only in areas that snails occur..

Natural predators are ducks, lizards, birds and leopard slugs..

So don’t poison your environment let the natural preditory help control the pest..

Anemone centres Hellebores.. not seen ever really in the nursery trade for sale.. it’s actually easy to produce.. basically cross your doubles with your singles.. and the nectarines enlarge to form little petals.. although the wait can be 5 years till you see what you’ve produced.. plant breeding itS a waiting game..

Daffodils at Wild Meadows come in all sizes even tiny ones like these miniatures this one is Rowitta…bred in Australian by M G Temple Smith in 1998.. worth seeking. I hopefully will have some available ..

So excited for spring.. Wild Meadows my private garden is packed jam full of spring delights.. we’ve been working hard for our spring and summer openings,yes we occasionally open to the public ..dates to be announced .. a Tv appearance that will be aired coming very soon and the Hartley Valley Garden Spring festival and plant fair is on again 24th and 25th October so stay tuned for more info..
It’s looking like to be a fantastic spring..

Jonquils.. Hellebores.. White bells..

Three remarkable shrubs that are flowering now in the Blue Mountains, these are very much suited to cool climate Gardens in NSW, Vic and Tasmania.
1.. Cornus mas, the Cornelian cherry, grown for its display of butter yelllow scented flowers in late winter.. it has red berrys in summer but not a true cherry it’s actually a dogwood..
2. Corylus avellana contorta, the twisted Hazel.. grown for it’s twisted winter branches and the decorated tassels that hang during the late winter months..great for floral work and I’ve seen them used in Japanese gardens..
3. Hamamelis mollis the Witch hazel. Beautiful yellow tassel bunches of flowers on bare stems, very sweetly fragrant and historically used in skin care products.
All require full to half day sun in well prepared soils, allways add a few handfuls of organics in your planting holes and mulch with woodchips and water once a month for the first year..
You’ll find these in specialist nursery’s ..
