Some insects look like they are out of this world. Some, like centipedes, can have between 10 to 300 legs, and then there's the Dobsonfly. Have you encountered one in person?

Comment below if there are any other insects you think should be included on this list.

Spotting Stored Product Insects in Your Pantry ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿชฒ

Stored product insects like flour beetles, grain weevils, and meal moths quietly target dry foods. They infest items such as flour, grains, nuts, spices, and pet food in commercial kitchens, pantries, and food warehouses.

Leaving these pests unmanaged quickly leads to contaminated stock and ruined supplies. Look out for these common indicators around stored food:

Webbing or fine silk threads inside food packages or around box lids. ๐Ÿ“ฆ
Clumping in dry powders like flour, cocoa, or baking mixes. ๐Ÿฅฃ
Small holes chewed through cardboard packaging or plastic bags. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ
Live beetles, larvae, or moths crawling inside food containers or near pantry shelves. ๐Ÿ›

Catching these signs early helps protect food supplies and reduces inventory waste. While throwing out infested items helps, an inspection can find hidden harbourage zones and help manage recurring risks.

Could your commercial premises be an ideal habitat for pest birds? Pigeons and seagulls require only minimal shelter to roost, and
small flocks can expand rapidly if left unmanaged
Early action helps reduce the risk of structural damage and stock contamination Keep an eye out for these 5 common signs of a bird infestation:
1. Concentrated droppings around roofs, balconies, and window ledges
2. Continuous bird calls or cries from young chicks in roof spaces
3. Loose nesting materials strewn across gutters and culverts
4. Blocked drainage systems from feathers and nest debris leading to dampness
5. Damaged packaging or stock caused by pecking and bird fouling
Spotting these signs early makes managing pest birds far simpler

Think termites go into hibernation when winter hits? Think again! As cold-blooded pests, subterranean termites adapt to cooler weather by retreating deeper into warm soil or taking advantage of internal home heating and wall cavities to feed year-round.

Don't wait for spring swarms: winter is an ideal time to schedule a subterranean termite inspection and discuss management solutions to help reduce the chance of termite damage.

Rat or Mouse? It matters! ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ Their behaviour, habitat, feeding habits, and control methods differ, so knowing which pest you're dealing with ensures effective prevention.

1. Size: Rats are generally larger than mice - rats can be as long as your hand. โœ‹

2. Tail: Rats have long, hairless tails that aren't longer than their bodies, while mice are the opposite!

3. Colour: Mice are usually light grey or brown with a lighter belly, whereas rats tend to be brown or black all over.

4. Ears: Mice have larger ears relative to their head, and their eyes appear more prominent. Rats, on the other hand, have smaller ears and eyes in proportion to their size.

5. Droppings: You can also differentiate by size if you come across droppings. Mouse droppings are smaller and pointed, whereas rat droppings are larger and more blunt.
