Fourth-year apprentice, machinery operator, landscaper and, apparently, part-time party hat enthusiast.

Mya is an absolute weapon on the tools and such a valued part of the Yards Apart crew. She’s not afraid of hard work, gets stuck into whatever the day throws at her and can clearly pull off a green party hat while operating a Vermeer. Not everyone can say that.

Hope you’ve had an awesome birthday, Mya — although I’m fairly sure Alex still made you work.

Ruby did the final inspection.

Reclaimed brick paving finished off with limestone accents on our Rutherglen project.

The old bricks bring all the character, while the limestone breaks it up and gives the whole area a really beautiful finish.

A lot of work went into getting this one just right — but apparently none of that matters until Ruby gives it the tick of approval.

Looks like we passed…. Phew… Thanks Ruby

Community has always been a pretty big deal to Alex.

Monday to Friday, you’ll usually find him somewhere on a Yards Apart job site. Come the weekend, there’s a fair chance you’ll find him in black and white with the Murray Magpies.

Coaching the Under 14s, lending a hand with Auskick, running water, helping wherever he’s needed… and apparently, when things get desperate enough, pulling the boots back on for the Seniors too.

Yards Apart is proud to sponsor the Murray Magpies, but for Alex, supporting the club has always been about far more than putting a logo on something.

It’s about being part of the community, giving your time, getting involved and helping make sure local clubs like this continue to thrive.

Although after a seven-minute comeback appearance, I'm thinking his contribution might be best kept to coaching, water running and landscaping for the immediate future.

Well… we hit rock bottom. Literally.

The team was making good progress on this retaining wall when the ground decided it had other plans.

Rock. And plenty of it.

Unfortunately for the rock, stopping wasn’t really on the agenda.

So when the normal gear wasn’t going to cut it, we called in the big guns — the rock auger. Thanks Grants Excavations PTY LTD - legend!

Built for exactly this sort of carry-on, it gets through the stuff that clearly didn’t get the memo that there’s a retaining wall to build.

The work must go on.

Not a bad way to make an entrance.

We’ve added feature lighting to the reclaimed red brick herringbone path at our Thurgoona project, core drilling the lights straight into the bricks to keep everything neat and seamless.

A bit of uplighting on the Teddy Bear Magnolia finishes it off nicely.

Looks pretty bloody good after dark.

Every apprentice remembers their first cut.

Today it was Jack’s turn with the reciprocating saw.

The pipe didn’t stand a chance…

And, more importantly, all 10 fingers are still attached.

We’ll take that as a successful day on site.

Planting day.

The recycled brick path’s done, the white hydrangeas are in, and now we hand the job over to Mother Nature.

Give it a couple of seasons and those hydrangeas will be spilling over the edge of the path like they were always meant to be there.

This one’s going to age like a good red brick.

When you’ve got a mature crepe myrtle like this, you’re already halfway there.
This Albury garden has that soft cottage feel, with clipped westringias, Miss Muffet pittosporums and a water feature bowl tying it all together.

Designed by Andrew Plant Landscapes, it’s a great example of how the right planting around an established feature tree can make a front yard feel properly special.

POETS (p**s of early, tomorrows Saturday) Day…

Knocking over an early bulk topsoil delivery from Peards Landscape Supplies this morning before most alarms had even gone off.

The team will get this spread, tidy the place up, and be out before most people have found their second coffee…. Legends!

Spring’s not far away, so we’re getting all the Yards Apart toys sorted.

The Vermeer had a play date at RDO Equipment in Lavington and is ready to get back into it.

Between the Vermeer, excavators, the posi-track and the rest of the fleet, we’re geared up for whatever gets thrown at us over the next few months.

Big thanks to the crew at RDO for looking after us. Appreciate it.

Can’t complain when the gear’s ready and the weather’s finally playing nice.
