October is National Safe Work Month.

This year’s theme, “Safe work is for life”, reminds us that the decisions we make at work can have a lasting impact.

At BridgePro, safety is part of every job, from planning the work and identifying risks to speaking up when conditions change. Whether on site, in the workshop or in the office, we all have a role to play.

Nothing we do, on any day, is more important than making sure everyone returns home safely to their families and loved ones.

Twelve years ago we built our first wharf for Marine and Safety Tasmania - MAST at St Helens. It is a project we remain very proud of, and one that will keep serving the community for generations.

We are pleased to be part of the Gordon Jetty redevelopment, delivering the same generational infrastructure our reputation has been built on.

Thanks for dropping by, Eric Abetz. Just like you have, many generations of Tasmanians will benefit from what we’re building together.

The Gordon Jetty redevelopment has begun!

I have many happy memories at this place and I know many locals would agree, it's worth upgrading.

I look forward to bringing positive updates as it progresses

Skills development doesn’t end when an apprenticeship, qualification or degree is complete.

This National Skills Week, we’re recognising the importance of continuing to learn at every stage of a career.

Earlier this year, BridgePro Engineering Managing Director Aaron Brimfield, Construction Manager Matthew Jordan and Engineering Manager Jarrod Thomas attended CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas—one of the world’s largest construction industry events.

Bringing together industry leaders from around the world, CONEXPO showcased the latest developments in construction equipment, technology and infrastructure solutions.

For our team, it was an opportunity to explore new ideas, learn from international industry leaders and bring valuable insights home to BridgePro.

From our apprentices and emerging leaders through to our most experienced people, investing in skills and sharing knowledge helps us strengthen our capability, work smarter and prepare for the future of construction.

Constructing for future generations.

LEARNING TO LEAD | NATIONAL SKILLS WEEK

Skills development doesn’t stop when an apprenticeship or qualification is complete—it continues throughout every stage of a career.

Earlier this year, members of the BridgePro team completed the two-day EPIC Elevate Leadership Training program with EPIC Services.

The program focused on the practical skills needed to lead strong, effective teams, including delegation, accountability, managing conflict, coaching, clear communication and action planning.

At BridgePro, we believe developing capable leaders is just as important as developing technical expertise. By continuing to invest in our people, we’re strengthening our teams, creating pathways for progression and building the leadership capability needed for the future.

National Skills Week is a great opportunity to recognise that learning takes many forms—and there is always another skill to build.

WHERE I STARTED → WHERE I AM NOW | ZAC DAVIS

National Skills Week is about celebrating the skills, training and career pathways that can take people further than they might have imagined.

For Zac Davis, that journey started in 2008 with a fabrication apprenticeship.

Growing up, Zac had always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a carpenter or joiner. After completing a Certificate II in Construction and trying his hand at joinery, an opportunity arose for an apprenticeship in Engineering – Fabrication Trade.

It wasn’t the career Zac had originally planned, but it turned out to be the beginning of one that would take him from the tools to leadership, estimating and project management.

After completing his apprenticeship early, Zac moved to Queensland, where his career developed across fabrication, repair assessment and marine construction. Over the next decade, he progressed through roles including Workshop Foreman, Draftsperson and Sales Manager, building experience in structural fabrication, AutoCAD drafting, estimating, project management and leading teams along the way.

In 2022, Zac returned to Tasmania and joined BridgePro, initially back on the tools in our fabrication workshop.

Within three months, he stepped into the role of Fabrication Manager, taking on the position around the time BridgePro commenced work on the New Bridgewater Bridge project.

Earlier this year, another opportunity arose, with Zac moving into his current role as Estimator / Project Manager – stepping away from the tools and bringing the practical knowledge and experience he’s built throughout his career into another area of the business.

As Zac explains:

“Having hands-on experience definitely helps. Being able to see challenges and potential issues in advance and plan and price jobs accordingly makes a difference.”

During his time at BridgePro, Zac has continued developing his skills, completing his International Welding Inspector Diploma, Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and Certificate IV in Competitive Systems.

Alongside formal training, Zac has been given opportunities to step outside his comfort zone, take on greater responsibility and continue developing within the business.

His advice to someone starting out?

“Don’t be scared to try new things. Take on responsibility and different opportunities when they’re offered. No matter the outcome, you learn and grow.”

Zac’s journey is a great example of why there isn’t just one pathway through construction.

An apprenticeship can be the beginning of a career that leads in directions you never expected – from the workshop and site to supervision, management, estimating, project delivery and beyond.

At BridgePro, we believe developing our people is just as important as developing our capability – creating opportunities for people to learn, grow and build long-term careers within our business.

Like a glove.

Seeing the Spirit of Tasmania come alongside her new Devonport berth is a proud moment for everyone at BridgePro Engineering.

We delivered the concrete ramp and approach structure leading to the bridge: five spans, four lanes, and some genuinely complex geometry not normally seen on a road bridge. Around 30 of our people worked on it for 18 months, with precast from our construction cousins in Latrobe and Ulverstone. A true NW Tassie collaboration.

Genuine credit to BMD as head contractor, and to Fitzgeralds for the impressive steel ramp, gantry and marine support structures. A true team effort, start to finish.

Constructing for future generations.
