Sketch plans bridging the gap between 1930s character & 2020s design. ✨

We love the classic charm of a Californian Bungalow, but modern living demands a different kind of flow. By adding a sleek, 'black box' parapet extension to the rear, will completely transformed how this home feels.

The addition will opened up the floor plan to let natural light flood the living spaces while keeping the historic street appeal intact. It is the perfect balance of heritage character & contemporary design.

Designing this thoughtful addition for our clients was all about balance, preserving the charm of the existing cottage while creating a modern, light-filled sunroom that maximises the stunning north-facing views of Mount Macedon.

The separate, freestanding multipurpose studio addition functionis boths as a gym with a sauna and office space—adding fresh functionality to the property without overwhelming the main home.

Construction documentation ✅️

This project originally began as an extension to the existing mudbrick home that the owners lovingly
owner built. However, in the end after further advice regarding the condition of the existing dwelling, it became apparent that a knock-down and rebuild could provide a more practical and cost-effective outcome.

Rather than simply starting again, we took the opportunity to design a new home that retained the similar footprint, character & overall feel of the original proposal, while providing a more functional, accessible, efficient & contemporary home for the owners.

The result is a modern, thoughtfully considered home that responds to its setting, with a combination of Monument Colorbond roofing & wall cladding co.bined with James Hardie Axon cladding, timber decking & pergola elements, & plenty of natural light.

A great example of how an unexpected change in direction can ultimately lead to a better outcome.

PLANNING PERMIT ✅️

We've just achieved a major milestone for this proposed contemporary addition to a traditional weatherboard cottage that has a heritage overlay. We designed the renovation & new addition, as well as handled the planning application.

This is a fantastic project where we've worked carefully to balance the heritage overlay of the original home with a stylish & functional new addition. The north-facing design will bring plenty of natural light & warmth into the new space, creating a seamlessly integrated living area that connects beautifully with the garden.

We're now fully underway with the construction documentation phase & looking forward to bringing this design to life. To keep things moving efficiently, this project is a two-staged building permit process. The first stage is underway, with the Impact build | Macedon Ranges focusing on re-stumping & subfloor rectification works to secure the existing portion of the home before, prior the new works commencing.

Today we celebrate 4 years with Branden Pearce at LEEMONdesign! 🙌✨

As LEEMONdesign’s very first employee, Branden set the bar high from day one. Whether he’s out on site measuring up, modeling existing conditions, or wrangling town planning reports, he handles it all with zero fuss & a great attitude.

Also, surviving 4 years in the office next to Callum deserves an award in itself! 🏆 (Plus, someone has to keep teaching Callum new things every week 😉).

Even when a project focuses primarily on internal reconfigurations & a subtle under-roof extension, seeing the big picture is everything.

Nestled on a sloped site in Mount Macedon, this existing weatherboard home is getting a thoughtful interior refresh designed to maximize layout & livability.

We are excited to share a sneak peek of this high-performance home, designed to work seamlessly with the local climate while keeping carbon footprints low and comfort levels exceptionally high. ☀️🌿
Behind these simple clean lines lies some seriously heavy-lifting sustainable engineering. Here is how we are locking in the comfort:

Insulated envelope: Built with 140mm external wall studs packed with R4.0 insulation batts, & a whopping R8.0 insulation in the ceiling.

High-performance flooring: A clever combination of fully sealed & insulated timber flooring paired with polished concrete floors for ultimate thermal mass benefits.

Airtight & Glazed: Thermally broken aluminium frame double-glazed windows & external doors to eliminate drafts and lock the temperature in.

Future-proofed energy: Powered by an integrated solar & battery storage system to keep the running costs practically non-existent.

Good design doesn't always have to look extravagant, but it should feel beautiful to live in year-round. We can’t wait to see this one come to life!

Planning permit application lodged ✅️

It's always a great feeling & milestone on a project to lodge the planning application.

Replacing an old house that has seen better days with a new one is a journey, & today we’re officially reaching that milestone as the planning application has been submitted.

Given the sites location, context & overlays we worked with & coordinating a team of expert consultants—from Land Surveying, Bushfire Management & Land Capability to Arborist assessments. It’s such a rewarding feeling to see all that planning & coordination come together for this budget-conscious efficient replacement home.
