I’m currently prepping the perennial beds for Winter (Spring really). Wish me luck - 1 bed completed, 3 to go!!!! Thought I’d demonstrate how to get more plants for FREE by division and cuttings. Examples shown are Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ and Lychnis coronaria. All the plants in this ‘hot colour’ bed can be easily divided and propagated in Autumn. Want more detail on propagation? It’s a common annual problem -what to do with all the autumn leaves? Running a lawn mower over dry leaves helps to break them down and reduces volume. Sprinkle them on garden beds as mulch, add to the compost pile or if you simply must get rid of them - add to the green waste bin!

Loving these soft pastel colourings in a Malvern garden I designed and planted out nearly 2 years ago. Sedum Autumn Joy and Russian Sage are great reliable performers and a bee magnet during autumn. PS: Sedum is a great plant to divide and propagate - more plants - for free !!

Often when I’m doing a garden consultation, Clients are stunned by what I can tell them within the first few mins. I can tell a whole lot about your garden, soil and plants often just by observing the (very) small things. When I see this ladybug (Illeis galbula) I know that I’m more than likely to find a fungus/mildew problem in some of your plants. If you need a garden health check - you know who to call!

Look what I ‘growed’! So thrilled that some dahlia tubers bought on a whim from the Big Green Shed and literally threw into a sunny spot have turned out spectacularly! This is Dhalia hortensis Penhill Watermelon. Each bloom is nearly as big as my head.
