Choosing fabric…

It’s not just about choosing something you love. Think about what’s already in the room, how the furniture will be used, durability, sun exposure, colour and pattern.

For my own Arts & Crafts dining chairs, the fabric needed to work with a patterned rug, duck-egg sofa and a rather random collection of art — without overwhelming the beautiful chairs themselves.

Zepel Insignia in Moss ticked the boxes. Enough colour and pattern to add interest and tie everything together, while FibreGuard protection makes it practical for everyday dining.

Beautiful, practical and right for the piece.

A little bit of traditional.

This gorgeous chair is upholstered in ILIV Marcella Limestone, with its delicate embroidered pattern perfectly complementing the detailed timberwork.

Careful pattern matching and just a touch of piping finish it all off — because the details really do matter.

Beautiful carved timber, classic detailing and a fabric that complements rather than competes with the chair’s original character.

Some pieces don’t need modernising — they just need to be beautifully restored and enjoyed for another generation.

Great design is always great design.

This set of two 1930s German chairs came to Australia with their family a generation ago. They had been recovered once by the original owner and the time had come for a total refurb.

Both have now had a complete rebuild with new springs and traditional upholstery. The cantilevered chrome frames are still in fabulous condition.

Finished in Warwick Keylargo Atlantic, keeping the beautiful shape and clean lines of the chairs the focus.

Look how she shines... restored timber, and complete upholstery make over.

Recovered in ILIV Tiffany Jewel, this fabric was an absolute pleasure to work with. Quality upholstery fabric not only looks beautiful, it upholsters beautifully, wears exceptionally well, and is made to last for generations.

The flowing Art Nouveau design was carefully pattern matched so it wraps seamlessly around the chair. It's details like these that make all the difference—and one of the most satisfying parts of the craft.

There's something special about seeing a project back where it belongs.

These four elegant balloons back dining chairs have been given a new lease on life, upholstered in Warwick Lovely Ecru—a fabric that couldn't be more at home in this peaceful dining space.

Beneath the new fabric, the tired old foam was replaced, the springing renewed for lasting comfort, and the original decorative studs were updated with a refined double piping, giving the chairs a softer, more contemporary finish while respecting their classic lines.

Walking into a client's home and seeing a piece you've worked on sitting exactly as they had imagined is one of the most rewarding parts of this craft. It's a reminder that upholstery isn't just about restoring furniture—it's about helping people create spaces they truly love.

I think these chairs have found their forever home once again.

This wingback chair has travelled a long way.

Originally brought to Australia from England by its owners, this much-loved piece has now received its third upholstery in a lifetime. Recovered in Warwick Seidler Olive, with carefully matched pattern placement and piping detail, it's ready for many more years of comfortable service.

Proof that quality furniture is worth preserving.
