⚠️ IMPORTED TINY HOME — SERIOUS ELECTRICAL SAFETY CONCERNS ⚡

We recently inspected an imported tiny home supplied via a factory appliance inlet and found extensive electrical safety and compliance issues.

All of these defects do not meet the minimum Australian standards as per AS/NZS 3000:2018 — Electrical installations & AS/NZS 3001:2008 — Electrical installations—Transportable structures and vehicles including their site supplies.

Some of the major defects included:

❌ Building/metalwork not correctly earthed

❌ Metal light fittings with no protective earth

❌ Electrical circuit protection not meeting Australian standards.

❌ Conductors hand twisted together and covered with electrical tape.

❌ Unsuitable wiring methods within insulated panel construction

❌ Incorrect polarity and damaged terminations

And unfortunately, the list goes on.

These aren’t just paperwork issues — requirements for earthing, RCD protection, correct wiring and terminations exist to protect people from electric shock and fire.

This particular tiny home requires extensive electrical rectification, including rewiring, before we would consider it suitable for connection.

⚠️ If you’re considering purchasing an imported or pre-wired tiny home, have the electrical installation inspected by a licensed electrical contractor BEFORE you buy or connect it.

Just because it arrives wired and “ready to plug in” doesn’t mean it complies with Australian electrical requirements.

It’s the work no one sees that often says the most about the standard of an electrician.

A neat switchboard isn’t just about looks—it makes future additions, maintenance and fault finding safer and easier.

If your switchboard is outdated, overcrowded or you’re unsure whether it meets current safety standards, we can inspect it and provide practical advice on the best way forward.

We service Kojonup and surrounding towns for residential, commercial and rural electrical work.

No power but nothing had tripped off 🧐🧐

We had power at meter pole but no power at the shed, quickly realised the fault was a broken cable somewhere underground.

Grabbed the cable locator and found the cable was burried next to an old strainer post that had been removed a couple of days ago and snapped the cable 🤬

Easy fix with a couple of shovels, cut and cleaned up the cables, installed weather proof box, connected cables back together and sealed the box with a non conductive gel to prevent moisture ever getting to the join.

Power back on to the sheds before lunch 👌🏻

Easy fix for the Salty Creek team if you have any faults or accidents like this give the team a call for a swift fix ⚡️

Progress update from site today. 👷‍♂️⚡

We’re installing 2 new 32A three-phase subcircuits for the pond aerators after the existing underground cables developed a fault.

The new cables are being installed in 50mm HD conduit with pits at every change of direction. This means if the cables are ever damaged again, they’ll be much easier to replace without having to excavate the entire run.

Taking a little extra care now makes future maintenance a whole

⚠️ What’s hiding in your roof space? ⚠️

This photo shows old single insulated wiring still in service. We still come across this in homes throughout the Great Southern, and while it may have worked for decades, it can pose a serious safety risk.

Over time, the insulation becomes brittle, cracks, or falls away, leaving live conductors exposed. This can lead to:
• ⚡ Electric shock hazards
• 🔥 Increased risk of electrical fires
• ❌ Faults that may not be protected by older switchboards
• 🏠 Expensive damage if left unnoticed

The biggest concern is that you often can’t see these issues from inside the house. The wiring may appear fine until someone enters the roof space or a fault develops.

If your home was built several decades ago and has never been rewired or had an electrical inspection, it’s worth having it checked before it becomes a costly or dangerous problem.

At Salty Creek Electrical, we carry out thorough electrical inspections and provide our Home Safety & Efficiency Report, giving you a clear picture of your home’s electrical condition and highlighting any safety concerns.

📞 If you’re unsure about the age or condition of your wiring, get in touch with us. A simple inspection today could prevent a major problem tomorrow.
