Concrete above, timber below, and a lot of careful thinking in between.

The off-form concrete soffit is left honest, with the joints set out to read as part of the room. Beneath it, the walnut bulkhead quietly absorbs the air-conditioning return, wraps into the joinery and drops into a battened screen, so every service has a place and nothing feels added later. The beauty is in the junctions.

Colour Study at Second Act | Klein Blue

At Second Act, colour takes its cue from a single painting. Kerry Armstrong’s work meets you at the door in Yves Klein blue. From here, blue tones spill outward through high-gloss joinery, collected works and soft furnishings, shifting from room to room, before gathering into one clear gesture: a custom tappeti fine crafted rugs + carpets stair runner that deepens as it descends, pale where it begins and richly saturated by the final step.

Klein believed blue had no dimensions, that it opened where the sky and sea end. That is what we wanted here: a colour with no edges, holding space open for whatever this next chapter brings.

Pink House | Green House in Surry Hills. Designed by Nick Bell Architects the home is a transformation of a dilapidated 1860s Surry Hills terrace into a light-filled, resilient family home - where design intelligence, not floor area, is key to urban living.

The terrace, is part of a conservation row in the heart of Sydney. Measuring just 3.8 metres at its frontage and sitting on 91 square metres of land, it is a case study in what considered design can achieve on a constrained inner-city site.

Before work began, it was dark, claustrophobic, and had been unsympathetically altered over decades. Today, it delivers 120 square metres of thoughtfully resolved internal floor area for Bell and his two adult daughters - a home that flexes between quiet retreat and vibrant family hub.

STUDIO SHAND

Terrace joinery!

A long time coming, the first of our 14 kitchens have finally found their way to our terraces on Nobbs Street. All detailed a little differently, this variant sees gold granite and laminate flow in a line south, providing generous volumes beneath new splayed skylight openings. Custom projected handles offset recessed pulls to provide articulation, with cabinets sitting off warm timber floors that connect heritage rooms to their new neighbours
