Spring is getting close....time for some pest preparation...
Pests are a reality for most households, and even the tidiest home can attract insects or rodents from time to time. With spring fast approaching, the following ideas can make your home far less inviting to unwanted visitors.
Food Scraps:
Compost is great for the garden, but keep the bin well away from your house. Decomposing plant matter attracts ants, cockroaches, and other insects.
Household Rubbish:
The longer rubbish sits inside, the more appealing it becomes to vermin. Practice frequent emptying to reduce the likelihood of rats or cockroaches being drawn inside.
Foggers/ Pest Bombs:
Bug bombs can help create a protective barrier by leaving insecticide residue on surfaces. Though not a complete solution on their own, they work in the short term.
Entrances & Exits:
Rodents can squeeze through surprisingly tiny gaps. Seal any cracks, holes, or openings in walls and floors, or anything that can serve as an entry point.
Cleanliness:
Even small traces of food can attract pests. Wipe up spills, clean greasy areas, and store pantry staples—especially flour—in sealed containers to avoid insects and rodents seeking out easy meals.
Preventing pests is far easier than removing them once they’ve settled in.
Spring is the perfect time to strengthen your home’s defences.
