It’s easy to assume communication is just "talking," but for us, high-quality communication is one of the foundations of our reputation.

Last week, our Office Manager Robyn led a team-wide workshop on Workplace Communication Standards. It was a fantastic opportunity to align our team, sharpen our habits, and ensure we're delivering the best possible experience for everyone we work with.

Key focus areas included:

- Choosing the Right Channel: Knowing when to pick up the phone (clearing up tension, urgent issues) vs. sending an email (formal records, detailed specs).

-Active Listening & Recapping: Confirming client and builder requirements before taking action to avoid rework.

-Proactive Expectations: Flagging delays early and keeping stakeholders updated so no one is ever left in the dark.

In a boutique firm, every voice and interaction counts. Setting clear standards ensures we remain approachable, reliable, and consistent—whether we’re speaking with architects, builders, clients or our colleagues.

Investing in our people is a big part of what we do.

You often don't know when you may need a structural engineer... until you need one! 🚧👀

Part of our work is rapid response and assessment following accidental vehicle impacts. Over the years we have completed several site inspections for commercial properties across the Gippsland region where structural walls and pillars sustained significant damage.

In these sensitive situations, our priority is always safety and community support. Our role involves:

Immediate structural damage assessment.

Design and certification of temporary works (shoring and propping) to secure the structure.

Developing long-term repair solutions to restore the building’s integrity.

It's a side of engineering that isn't always glitzy, but it's essential for protecting local businesses and the public. Most importantly, we're glad to report that no one was seriously injured in any of these incidents.

Make sure you're following our page so you know who to call if the unexpected ever happens to your property!

Stay safe on the roads. 🚗🗺️

Investing in our people. 🧡✨

Back in 2023, we laid a strong foundation for our team’s mental fitness by delivering The Resilience Project. Fast forward to 2026, and we are thrilled to take our commitment to workplace wellbeing to the next level! 🚀

Introducing the Deery Wellness Centre—featuring our brand-new, state-of-the-art Zero Gravity Massage Chair!

We didn't just tuck this chair away in a quiet corner; we intentionally created a wellness and recovery space at our Inverloch office. It’s a sanctuary where our team can genuinely step away from their desks, pause, and reset during the working day.

Why a Zero Gravity Massage Chair? By reclining into a zero-gravity position, the chair evenly distributes body weight to reduce spinal pressure, improve circulation, and deeply alleviate physical tension. It’s the ultimate tool for:

- Physical Recovery: Easing muscle tension and supporting physical health.
- Mental Clarity: Giving the mind a chance to switch off, lowering stress, and fighting fatigue.
- Sustainable Performance: Helping our team recharge so they can feel their best, both inside and outside of work.

Life is busy and work can be demanding, but we believe taking time to pause shouldn't be a luxury—it's essential.

A massive shoutout to the team at Wellness Hire for helping us find the perfect solution and for providing such incredible, personalised service from start to finish! We love supporting fantastic Victorian small businesses. Wellness Hire &

Huge congratulations to two incredible local building teams for their massive wins at the 2026 MBV Eastern Regional Building Awards! 🏆✨

We are incredibly proud to see two homes we provided the structural engineering for take home top honors:

🥇 Best Custom Home $2M–$4M

🏡 San Remo House, San Remo
Beautifully brought to life by the visionaries at (and masterfully captured by Lori Hand ). A spectacular three-level coastal luxury masterpiece carved into the hillside!

🥇 Best Custom Home $1M–$2M

🏡 Seadragon, Cape Paterson
An absolute standout refined coastal home, thoughtfully designed by the team at (with stunning photography by Shelley Price). Pure architectural precision!

It takes an incredible team to bring complex, beautiful architecture to life, and it was a privilege working alongside these elite builders and designers to handle the engineering behind the scenes. Cheers to well-deserved recognition! 🥂

The final reveal: An off-grid masterpiece at Neerim Junction. 🏔️✨

After showing you where it started and the work in the dirt, we are thrilled to share the incredible completed home. Reaching this milestone is a proud moment for our structural and civil engineering teams.

Elevated above the valley’s cloud line at the southern foothills of the Great Dividing Range, this home is a true celebration of the breathtaking Australian landscape, commanding panoramic views towards the Yarra Ranges & Mount Buller. ☁️🦅

From the engineering and construction standpoint, bringing this fluid, curved form to life was an incredible journey. The design elegantly follows the contour of the hillside to capture the stunning views and optimise solar orientation.

Some of our favorite technical highlights of the build include:

The Rammed Earth Spine: A massive, curved rammed earth wall that sweeps along the landscape, providing privacy, warmth, and protection.

Solidity vs. Transparency: The heavy tactility of the earth contrasts beautifully with the lightweight charred timber cladding and high-performance glazing on the northern facade.

The Layout: A thoughtful linear composition featuring 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 powder rooms, and an expansive open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area.

Best of all, the dwelling is a testament to sustainable construction and engineering. Fully off-grid, it utilizes solar energy, harvested rainwater, and on-site waste management systems to achieve a phenomenal 8.5 Star NatHERS energy rating. 🌟🌱

A huge congratulations to the entire team involved in delivering a home that is as robust as it is beautiful.

Engineering the foundations for sustainable design. 📐⛰️

On Monday, we took you back to day dot at Neerim Junction. Today, we’re diving into the technical precision and engineering solutions required to bring ’s sustainable vision to life on this steep, breathtaking site.

Designing an off-grid home on a ridge line means working in total harmony with the environment, which presented some unique structural and civil challenges. 🧩

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we anchored this architectural dream into the hillside:

The Structural Framework:

Navigating the Slope: We engineered a suspended waffle slab on a steep cut/fill site, supported by deep reinforced piers to ensure absolute slope stability.

Heavy-Duty Foundations: Designed a specialised suspended raft slab on deep foundations to securely support the home's substantial off-grid water storage.

Bracing for the Elements: To protect against high ridge-line winds, we upgraded the wall framing and portal frames to meet a rugged N4 wind classification.

Architectural Overhangs: Engineered the dramatic 3-meter eave overhangs with upgraded rafter tie-downs to safely manage wind uplift while providing optimal shade.

Earthy Materials: Provided the structural engineering required to seamlessly integrate the beautiful feature rammed earth walls.

The Civil Infrastructure:

Water Security: Engineered the integration of a massive 100,000L water tank, which includes a dedicated 10,000L reserve for firefighting protection.

Environmental Management: Designed the on-site wastewater land application area (LAA) in strict accordance with the approved Land Capability Assessment (LCA) report.

Sustainable architecture relies on intelligent engineering above and below the surface. Swipe through to see the structural bones of this incredible project coming together! 🦺🏗️

Up next: The grand finale. Stay tuned for our final post to see how these engineering solutions paved the way for a breathtaking finished home.
