⚡ HAS ERGON ISSUED YOU A DEFECT? ⚡
One of the most common defects we’re currently seeing is older meter boxes fitted with asbestos-containing panels.
While an asbestos panel may remain undisturbed for many years, once electrical work, alterations or upgrades are required, it can become an issue. In many cases, these older meter boxes are also still fitted with ceramic fuses and ageing electrical equipment.
🔧 A meter box upgrade is a great opportunity to bring your electrical protection up to modern standards.
Upgrading old ceramic fuses to modern circuit breakers and RCBOs (combined circuit breaker/RCD protection) can provide some important benefits:
⚡ Improved safety – RCD protection can quickly disconnect power when an electrical fault or leakage to earth is detected, helping reduce the risk of electric shock.
🔥 Better protection from electrical faults – Modern circuit breakers provide reliable overload and short-circuit protection without relying on old fuse wire.
🔄 No more replacing fuse wire – If a circuit trips, a circuit breaker can generally be reset once the cause of the fault has been identified and rectified.
☀️🔋 Ready for future upgrades – If you’re considering solar, batteries, air-conditioning, EV charging or other electrical upgrades, having a modern switchboard can make future works much easier.
If Ergon has issued a defect notice, or you have an older meter box with an asbestos panel and ceramic fuses, give the SpinFX team a call.
We can inspect your existing meter box, explain what needs to be upgraded and provide a quote to get everything brought up to standard.
