We are pleased to have delivered the new Breast Care Centre for the Department of Health Tasmania.

Designed to create a calm, welcoming and supportive environment, the centre uses natural materials, soft forms, integrated planting, considered lighting and graphics to create a less clinical and more human-centred experience.

Staff wellbeing was equally important, with dedicated spaces providing comfort and respite for the clinical team.

A modest but meaningful project that reflects our belief in the role thoughtful architecture can play in supporting dignity, wellbeing and the overall experience of care.

Thank you to the Department of Health, clinicians, consultants, contractor and broader project team for their collaboration in bringing the centre to life.

PAST PROJECT | CASCADE BREWERY BAR

Completed in 2020, JAWS designed a tasting bar and restaurant that celebrated both the history of Cascade Brewery and the remarkable landscape that surrounds it.
Two previously disconnected spaces were brought together to create a warm, inviting venue that balances heritage character with contemporary hospitality. Rich brass detailing, a striking U-shaped bar and a deep Cascade green ceiling establish a bold identity, while expansive glazing draws the gardens, brewery and views towards kunanyi / Mt Wellington into the experience.

LAUNCESTON HOSPICE

Some projects remind us that architecture is ultimately about people. The Launceston Hospice is one of them.

This project represents a rare opportunity to design a place that supports people and families at one of the most profound moments in life.

We believe that a hospice is a place of care, dignity, comfort, and connection.

The project also carries a unique challenge - carefully adapting a heritage building to support modern hospice care. Respecting the character and history of the existing structure while creating spaces that meet contemporary healthcare needs has been a thoughtful and rewarding process for the team.

Our design approach has focused on creating an environment that feels calm, familiar, and deeply human. Rather than a clinical setting, the hospice is envisioned as a series of gentle, domestic-scaled spaces connected to gardens, natural light, and the Tasmanian landscape.

Projects like this rely on the dedication of many people. We are thankful to be working alongside the Department of Health , stakeholders, consultants and the wider community who are deeply committed to making this hospice a reality for Northern Tasmania.

It is a privilege for our team to contribute in a small way to a project that will mean so much to so many.

PARLIAMENT SQUARE

The most successful workplace environments are those that quietly support the people who use them every day.

Created as part of the expansion within Parliament Square these spaces have been designed to balance collaboration, confidentiality and wellbeing. Warm timber finishes, integrated acoustic treatments and thoughtfully planned communal areas create an environment that is both functional and welcoming.

A restrained material palette provides a calm backdrop for a series of large-scale Tasmanian artworks, bringing a strong sense of place and identity to the interiors. Celebrating the Tasmanian landscape and identity, the artwork brings warmth and character contributing to a dignified and contemporary workplace environment.

PAST PROJECT | 2023

While play is often the focus in early learning environments, the spaces that support everyday connection are just as important.

JAWS designed the Larapi Child and Family Learning Centre to contain shared kitchens, informal seating areas and light-filled circulation spaces. These spaces provide opportunities for parents, carers, children and staff to connect naturally throughout the day, helping transform the building from a facility into a genuine community.

✨A new chapter for one of Bellerive's most recognisable corners.✨

We're proud to be partnering with ALTCO and JAWSArchitects to bring Apartments at The Quay to life.

For years, this prominent corner of Clarence Street and Cambridge Road has sat waiting for its next chapter. Soon, it will become a landmark residential development, delivering premium one, two and three-bedroom apartments alongside quality commercial space in the heart of Bellerive.

Developments like this are about far more than creating new homes. They revitalise underutilised sites, strengthen local communities, support surrounding businesses and provide much-needed housing choice for downsizers, professionals, first-home buyers and investors.

SANDY BAY ROAD HOUSE

For this Sandy Bay renovation, every curve, junction and material selection was carefully considered to create a calm and cohesive living environment. From the handcrafted tiled island and bespoke joinery handles to the sculpted banquette seating and softly curved walls, the detailing works together to bring warmth, texture and refinement to the space.

It was a pleasure working with the client who immediately understood the design intent and embraced the subtlety of the brief. Their trust in the process allowed the project to be shaped by craftsmanship, materiality and restraint, resulting in an interior where the smallest details contribute to the overall experience.

Designing a secure workplace requires a careful balance of openness, privacy and functionality. These purpose-built office spaces support the day-to-day work of its occupants while responding to the unique requirements of a confidential working environment.

PAST PROJECT | MAKO SERIES MODULARS

One of the common criticisms of modular housing is that it can result in a "one size fits all" outcome. The MAKO Modular Series was developed to challenge that idea.

Created by JAWS in collaboration with EcoCabins, the system uses a series of interchangeable modules that can be arranged and adapted to respond to the unique qualities of each site. Orientation, views, access, topography, sunlight and shelter can all influence the final design, ensuring each home is tailored to its location rather than imposed upon it.

By combining the efficiencies of prefabrication with the principles of site-responsive architecture, the MAKO Series demonstrates how modular construction can deliver both practical and design-led outcomes.
