Appreciation Post

Not often you wake up to discover that someone has quietly donated $250 to something you’re incredibly passionate about.

But that’s exactly what happened this morning.

A huge thank you to the very generous Kerrie-Louise Hooper for making this donation to Community Garden Maintenance. ❤️

Kerrie-Louise didn’t have to do it. She simply wanted to support the cause and help me continue providing free gardening assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

That $250 will go a long way towards the ongoing costs of keeping this service free — fuel, equipment, materials and everything else that comes with getting out there and helping people.

I’m incredibly grateful. 🙏

I never want this to feel like a fundraising push. But if you’ve ever wondered whether a small contribution can make a difference, this is a pretty good example of how it can.

Thank you, Kerrie, for believing in what I’m trying to do.

Today's free gardening job was for Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania.

It started off a little rainy, but thankfully turned into a beautiful afternoon.

I was incredibly grateful to the gentleman of the family I was helping, who worked alongside me every step of the way.

Together, with a bit of kindness and teamwork, we’ve made the yard more user-friendly and created a safer space for the children to enjoy. 🏡❤️

Very happy to keep helping people, one week at a time. 🙂

What volunteering has taught me 💙

One of the unexpected things I’ve discovered through my free Community Garden Maintenance work is just how many incredible organisations are quietly supporting people in our community.

Charities. Community organisations. Housing providers. Health professionals. Support workers. Small local initiatives.

There are so many more of them than I ever realised.

And honestly, if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing, I probably wouldn’t know they existed.
But there’s something else I’ve come to really appreciate.

When I arrive at an organisation to help with some gardening, I don’t feel like an outsider coming in to do a job.

I genuinely feel like part of their team.

For a few hours, I’m working alongside people who are supporting their clients every day. I’m contributing in a small way to what they’re trying to achieve, and hopefully making their job just a little bit easier.

And I think there’s something really powerful about that.

Gardening might be the reason I walk through the gate, but the connections, conversations and understanding of our community are what I take away with me.

It has opened my eyes to a whole side of our community that I simply didn’t know existed.

And I’m only just getting started.

Sometimes, you don’t need to look very far to find meaningful ways to help.

You just need to be willing to turn up. 🌱

Today’s Free Gardening Job in the Sunshine 😎

Once again, I was very happy to lend a hand to Monique from Still Gardening, an initiative of Hobart City Council.

Today we spent some time cleaning up the front and back yards, including giving a rather awesome fig tree some much-needed attention. 🌳

In the video, Monique talks about what the Still Gardening team does, the amazing contribution of their volunteers, and the positive impact the program has within our community.

And to finish the day off, I was treated to a lovely lunch and a cuppa in the backyard. ☕️🥪
How good! 🙂🏡

Oh, and a lovely surprise, Duncan one of the participants from the Grow Program was also here today as a Hobart City Council volunteer - he really is a star 🌟

I’m very grateful to be able to give a little back through these free gardening days and to meet so many wonderful people along the way. 💙

Today's free gardening job was for Home Base

Their client has had some health issues and hasn't been able to maintain front and backyards.

Well, the rain made it a bit more challenging than it should have been, but it's looking a bit more respectful.

The lady was super appreciative and this is what it's all about, helping people, one week at a time 🏡♥️
