🌿 Sometimes, all someone needs is a helping hand. 💚

Today’s free gardening job was for a lovely lady who, due to her health conditions, is unable to bend down or go outside without a support person.

It’s easy to see how a garden can become a little overgrown when you’re physically unable to get out there and look after it yourself.

This is exactly the kind of person I started Community Garden Maintenance to help.

She was incredibly appreciative of the work, and she couldn’t believe I had even taken the time to w**d the area outside her sitting space.

Her response really made my day. She told me how lovely it would be to sit outside and enjoy looking at her garden again. ❤️

Mission accomplished! 🌱

It’s not just about w**ding, tidying up or making a garden look better. It’s about helping people enjoy their own outdoor spaces again, especially when life or health makes it difficult to do so themselves.

I’m looking forward to helping the next person next Tuesday.

🌿 Sometimes a gardening job gives you much more than you ever expected. ❤️

Today I completed another free gardening job through a referral from the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania, helping Aman, his wife and their three children.

Aman has severe mobility issues with his foot, which makes getting into their garden extremely difficult. Living on a sloped block, the front garden had become quite overgrown, so I was very happy to be able to give them a hand and make the space a little safer and more enjoyable for their family.

But what happened afterwards is what really stayed with me.

Aman and his family were so incredibly kind and appreciative that they invited me into their home to share Ethiopian flatbread and coffee. ☕️🥖

I sat there with Aman and his family, sharing food, talking and hearing a little about their lives.

Honestly, I felt genuinely humbled.

I went there thinking I was simply going to do some gardening for a family who needed a hand.
I left feeling like they had given me something too.

This is exactly why I started Community Garden Maintenance — to help people who might otherwise struggle to maintain their outdoor spaces, but also to create a little connection, kindness and dignity along the way.

The garden looks better now, but the memory of that coffee and conversation will stay with me far longer than the garden ever will. ❤️🌿

Thank you Aman and your beautiful family for welcoming me into your home.

🏡❤️ Another Free Gardening Service — Wellways ❤️🏡

Today I had the pleasure of helping out through - Wellways, a not-for-profit organisation supporting people facing mental health and mobility challenges.

What started as a free gardening job turned into so much more than just getting stuck into the garden.

Mick was absolutely wrapped with the end result. He told me he thought he was going to get much less done than what we were able to achieve, and his appreciation genuinely meant a lot to me. 🙏

We also had a great chat along the way, and Mick even looked after me with a couple of hot coffees ☕️ — so I definitely wasn't complaining!

For me, this is what Community Garden Maintenance is all about.

It's not just mowing, pruning, w**ding or tidying up a garden.

It's about helping someone feel better about their surroundings, creating a safe and enjoyable outdoor space, having a chat, listening, and reminding people that they matter.

The gardening is simply the tool I use to make a difference.

Free of charge. No judgement. Just one person helping another, one garden at a time.

A huge thank you to Wellways for the referral and to Mick for the coffee, the conversation and the kind words. ❤️

🌿 Free Gardening Service today for Mission Australia 🙂🏡

Today’s job wasn’t a huge one, but it was a great reminder that sometimes the smaller jobs can make a really big difference.

The backyard itself was accessible, but the enclosed garden bed area had become difficult for the tenant to safely get into and use. After clearing and tidying the area, they can now access that section of the garden again and hopefully enjoy growing and tending to it.

That’s what this service is all about.

It’s not about how big the garden is or how much work is involved. It’s about helping someone who is struggling to maintain their outdoor space, making it safer and more usable, and giving them back an area they can enjoy.

A few hours of my time can make a meaningful difference to someone who simply needs a hand. ❤️

🏡 Today's Free Gardening Service was for Loreto Community Housing. ❤️

I started a little later than normal today, because I couldn't miss Fin's (the 5-year-old) Book Week parade at school. Some things are just too important to miss! 😊

When I arrived at this property, I quickly realised the tenant was unable to access her backyard at all.

My aim with every free gardening service is simple — to create a safe, usable and enjoyable outdoor space for someone to enjoy.

This lady has severe health problems and simply isn't able to maintain her garden herself. And when a garden becomes overgrown, it's easy for someone to lose the ability to use and enjoy a space that should be theirs.

It's certainly not perfect, but today we removed pretty much all of the blackberries and created an area where she can sit, relax and hopefully enjoy some of that beautiful Spring sunshine. ☀️🌿

This is why I do what I do.

Helping vulnerable people in our community, one week at a time. ❤️

No judgement. No cost. Just trying to make a little difference where I can.
