What have we been up to lately?

Servicing an increasing number of global maritime operators, Franmarine has been on the ground (and underwater) in:

▪️USA
▪️Las Palmas
▪️Christmas Island
▪️Sri Lanka
▪️Japan
▪️Korea
▪️Across Australia (Exmouth, Sydney, Geraldton and Fremantle)

When we say we are nationally distributed with unrestricted international reach - this is what it looks like in a quarter. From offshore robotic in-water hull cleaning and ROV Class UWILD’s, to salvage, demolition and critical underwater engineering services, Franmarine delivers the globally deployable subsea capabilities the maritime industry needs with the agility it demands.

Big thanks to the multiple service teams making it happen across every time zone.

📢 We're hiring - Project Manager | Henderson, Perth WA

Franmarine delivers marine and underwater services across Defence, Shipping, Resources and Infrastructure - with demand growing, we need someone to help drive project delivery across Western Australia.

This role covers a genuine variety of projects - different industries, different scopes, different timelines. You'll manage the full lifecycle from initiation through to delivery, handle client relationships, and work alongside a close-knit operations team.

We're welcoming applications from recent PM graduates through to candidates with several years of experience. If you're adaptable, detail-oriented, and want a role where no two projects are the same, we'd love to hear from you.

Maritime or Defence experience is highly regarded but not essential.

🚢 Franmarine delivers major offshore hull cleaning campaign

We're proud to share the successful completion of a large-scale hull cleaning project in international waters - one of the most challenging environments our team has faced.

Operating on a ultra-deepwater drillship under Dynamic Positioning (DP), our team worked 24/7 over three weeks to clean heavily fouled surfaces, including barnacles up to 200mm, through 2–4 knot currents and 2–4 metre swells.

Our ROV Manager Marc Green said it best: "The outcome was a testament to operational knowledge and problem-solving expertise of the team... it was an exceptional team effort that I am proud of."

✅ Full flat hull plating cleaned

✅ Above-waterline cleaning completed where practicable

✅ FR0 end condition achieved across all treated surfaces

✅ Digital reporting delivered to Class and regulatory specification via the MarineStream platform

This project is a strong example of what's possible when advanced robotic technology, skilled people, and great collaboration come together offshore. 🌏

We’re incredibly proud to share that Franmarine delivered biofouling management services on HMS Anson during its recent visit to HMAS Stirling, a historic milestone as the first Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine to undergo a maintenance period here in Australia.

Our team deployed Franmarine’s mobile underwater sustainment system to deliver in-water cleaning with capture and subsea inspection services - a proven alternative to dry-docking that maintains the highest standards of environmental protection.

This moment reflects years of hard work building a genuinely world-class underwater engineering capability right here in WA and it’s a tangible step towards supporting Submarine Rotational Force - West and the broader AUKUS partnership.

“To deliver biofouling management services on a Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine, in Australian waters, is a defining moment for Franmarine and for WA’s defence industry. It demonstrates that local innovative capability, driven by Australia’s marine biosecurity standards and built through years of investment, has a critical role to play in AUKUS.”

- Adam Falconer-West, CEO, Franmarine

We thank and congratulate Defence Industries Minister Paul Papalia and the Cook Government for championing WA’s SME sector and supporting local industry to play an active role in the AUKUS partnership.

Big news for the maritime industry - and for us.

Last week, ISO published ISO 6319:2026, the world's first international standard for in-water hull cleaning. It sets the rulebook for how ships are cleaned underwater without negatively impacting the marine environment - something our industry has never had before.

We've assessed Franmarine's operations against this standard and its companion, ISO 20679:2025: 15 out of 16 areas fully compliant, with one lab analyte to add.

Here's the thing, we weren't scrambling to catch up. We've been operating this way for years: full capture filtration, independent water quality monitoring, NATA-accredited lab analysis, and our own digital compliance platform, MarineStream.

The areas we're especially proud of are the niche ones - sea chests, propellers, rudder pintles, overboard discharge pipes, anodes. That's where 80% of biofouling concentrates, and where most of the industry doesn't clean with capture. We do.

With IMO approving a pathway to mandatory biofouling regulations at MEPC 83, these standards won't stay voluntary for long. Most operators aren't there yet. We already are.

✨ Project Highlight: Offshore Hull Clean, Cape-Class Vessel ✨

Our team recently completed an offshore flat-plating hull clean on a heavily fouled Cape-class vessel while adrift, using the powerful CLIIN magnetic crawler and fully recorded in MarineStream. We delivered a clean, compliant result - despite mixed swell, currents, and variable visibility.

🌊 Why it matters for operators:

✔️ Biofouling compliance → smooth port entry into Australia
✔️ Fuel savings → reduced drag = efficiency + lower emissions
✔️ Maximised uptime → extend docking cycles & cut costly diversions

By keeping hulls clean offshore, we’re helping vessel owners meet compliance requirements, reduce operational costs, and keep fleets performing at their best.

🤝 Innovation thrives through collaboration

At Franmarine, we believe that safeguarding our marine environments is a shared responsibility, one we carry together with partners across industry and government.

This Biosecurity Week, we’re proud to highlight our ongoing collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and . Together, we’re trialling our innovative hull cleaning system that captures dislodged material and treats the water through MarineStream’s advanced filtration and UV technology, minimising environmental risk and helping to prevent the spread of invasive marine species.

Recently, Franmarine voluntarily submitted our filtration systems for assessment against the draft biosecurity guidelines. By working in partnership with industry and government, we can test these systems against real-world challenges and environments. This is an essential step on the journey toward sustainable in-water hull cleaning.

This project exemplifies what’s possible when operational insight, cutting-edge technology, and regulatory rigour come together. It’s not just about cleaning hulls, it’s about advancing safer, smarter marine maintenance that respects our ecosystem.

A huge thank you to the DPIRD team, Fremantle Ports, and our own team at Franmarine for co-leading this important work.
