When I originally shared this video, there were hundreds of comments asking "Why?", along with plenty of concern for the welfare of the sheep.
That's not a bad thing. It's an opportunity to educate.
Most people are several generations removed from agriculture. If they've never seen something like this before, it's only natural that they'll have questions. Rather than dismissing those concerns, we should welcome them and explain the reasoning behind what we do.
Sharing not only what we do, but why we do it, has never been more important. If we want to continue doing what we love, we need to maintain our social licence to operate. That means helping people who aren't familiar with agricultureāand who may never even consume what we produceāunderstand the care, thought and purpose behind modern farming practices.
Every genuine question is an opportunity to build understanding. Every respectful conversation helps bridge the gap between agriculture and the wider community.
