When you're working in an operating medical centre, getting in early means we can get the work done with as little disruption as possible.

This one involved replacing:

A fresh Mitsubishi Electric 3.5kW split system installed for this Eltham property.

This wasn't just a case of swapping one unit for another. The existing system was removed, the electrical circuit modified to suit, new interconnect and refrigerant pipework installed, and the outdoor unit mounted up off the ground on heavy-duty brackets.

Add a new weatherproof isolator, testing, vacuuming and commissioning and she's ready for Melbourne summer. ☀️➡️❄️

Sometimes you don't know until you open it up. 👀

A recent strata electrical project involved upgrading an older Public Light & Power switchboard servicing common areas.

The plan included a new enclosure, updated protection, lighting controls, proper labelling and an AUTO / OFF / ON override.

Then the old board came apart...
⚠️ An ageing cotton-covered neutral conductor was discovered within the existing supply arrangement and wasn't suitable for reconnection to the new installation.
That meant additional planning, a coordinated shutdown and replacement of the affected conductor before the new installation could be safely completed.
Older buildings can hide some interesting electrical history! 😅

It's also why we take strata and common-property switchboard upgrades seriously. What looks straightforward from the outside doesn't always tell the whole story.

When one external light fails at a strata property, technically you could replace it with any suitable fitting...
But when every other light around the building matches, one completely different fitting sticks out like a sore thumb. 😂

For this common-area lighting job, we went searching for a replacement that maintained a similar style and appearance to the existing fittings.

Alongside lighting repairs, our strata maintenance work can include documenting switchboards, lighting controls, PE cells, fitting types and access requirements so we actually know what we're dealing with when we're called back to site.
It makes future maintenance safer, easier and more efficient. ⚡

This one might look like a new touchscreen and a clear box... but there was a fair bit happening behind the scenes. 👀

Our team recently upgraded an existing ELAN control system at a retirement living property in Gowanbrae.

The works included:
🖥️ Replacement & configuration of the ELAN touchscreen
⚙️ Major update to the existing SC300 control system
🔧 Updated system configuration
🛡️ Modified protective enclosure around the new screen
✅ Testing & commissioning

And yes, the clear enclosure has a purpose! 😂 It helps prevent unintended access to the controls while keeping the interface visible and accessible when required.
Sometimes the best technology solution isn't just about the equipment. It's about making it work for the people and environment it's actually installed in.

🚨 When did you last check your smoke alarms?

Probably not very often... and that's kind of the point. 😂
They're easy to forget about until something isn't working properly.

During recent electrical works, we came across an existing smoke alarm setup where the original 230V alarms had been disconnected from power and the cabling had been pushed back into the roof space.

So, the team got to work 👇
⚡ Retrieved the existing cabling from the roof space
🚨 Addressed 3 x existing smoke alarm locations
🔧 Checked the electrical provisions
🏠 Installed the replacement alarms
✅ Tested the completed installation

Smoke alarms might not be the most exciting electrical upgrade in the house, but they're certainly one of the most important.

If yours are old, disconnected, playing up or you simply have no idea when they were last looked at, it might be time for a check. 👀

A 75" TV deserves better than cables hanging down the wall. 😂

For this entertainment area we took care of:

🛠️ Premium-quality Australian-made wall bracket
🔌 New power point concealed behind the TV
🔊 Existing soundbar wall mounted underneath
🎮 Existing devices reconnected
⚡ Additional power where needed elsewhere in the home

The end result? A much cleaner entertainment wall with everything sitting exactly where it should. 🙌

Here's a clever little strata solution from a recent basement car park job.

The requirement was to provide a power point from the available supply while also having a way to separately track how much electricity was actually being used through it.

Enter the little kWh meter. 👋
Our team installed:
📊 Dedicated single-phase kWh meter
⚡ New double power point
🔧 New enclosure, cabling & conduit
🏷️ Clearly identified metered supply
🧪 Full testing & commissioning

Electricity to the outlet passes through the meter, allowing the usage associated with that supply to be recorded.

A simple concept, but potentially very handy for Owners Corporations and shared properties where individual use needs to be monitored separately from common power.

And just like that… 10 years.
What started in 2016 has grown into a decade of connecting people, spaces and technology across Melbourne.

Over the last 10 days, we’ve shared just a handful of the projects that have shaped Cable & Connect along the way. From AV and video conferencing to security, data, electrical, industrial automation and some pretty special Melbourne locations, it’s been a hell of a journey.

But behind every project is something much bigger.
It’s the clients who trusted us with their homes, businesses and spaces.
The builders, contractors and suppliers who’ve worked alongside us.
The people who recommended us to someone else.
The repeat clients who kept calling us back.
The team members who’ve worn the Cable & Connect shirt over the years.
And everyone who has supported the business, whether from day one or somewhere along the way.

DAY 10/10 🏛️⚡ | We made it!

For the final project in our 10 Days of Cable & Connect, we had to pick somewhere pretty special.

The Shrine of Remembrance.

This one isn't actually one job either.
We've been fortunate enough to complete a whole range of electrical and lighting works across the Shrine and its grounds over multiple visits.

And as you can probably tell from some of these photos, working at a site like this isn't always your standard "swap a light and head home" kind of job. 😂

Existing infrastructure, difficult access, fault finding and working carefully around one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks have made for some pretty interesting days on the tools.

But it's also one of those places where you stop for a second and think...
Bloody hell. We get to work here.
From where Cable & Connect started to projects like this, it's a pretty special one to finish our countdown with. 🧡

So that's it...
DAY 10 OF 10. DONE. ⚡

And there's a very good reason we've finished the countdown today.
Because tomorrow, Cable & Connect officially turns 10. 🥳
