Apprentice Seth getting an education on VSD (Variable Speed Drive) today. The unit was being installed to replace a previously storm damaged device. This VSD is being utilised to run a "constant pressure system" on a large pump; monitoring the line pressure and ramping the pump speed up and down ensuring the pump always delivers the same pressure, whether it be suppling a full irrigation system or just a single tap. VSD supplied by Lanson Trading- Pump and Irrigation

AAE Industries prides itself on servicing much more of the utility sector than just electrical services.
43 years of regrowth had reclaimed this pipeline and cable run turning it back into bush land. The ever growing tree roots regularly damaging both the pipe and cabling; creating major leaks and resulting in the loss of major quantities of water and compromising a communities water supply. The dense bush making it extremely difficult to find damage and near impossible to access.

AAE Industries has just completed clearing a 6m wide corridor for 1 km of this pipeline; clearing all regrowth except protected trees and riparian zones. This will prevent further damage to the line, while clearly defining the lines' location and creating ease of access for any future service works. The use of our smaller, lighter machine has minimized impact on the ground avoiding the risk of damaging the sub surface utilities with excess weight. Our flail mulcher meant we were able to greatly reduce the amount of remaining bio mass left on site by approximately 70%. Our machine partnered with its hydraulic grab proved it was still well and truly up to the task of handling and neatly stacking the larger remaining timber too large for mulching.

If you need a service line cleared for installation of new services or maintenance of existing, give AAE Industries a call 0401 099 163

A massive thankyou to Essential Energy and all of your incredible team for the massive efforts you go to keep our lights on.

Most people dont understand the scale of what is involved in maintaining the electrical grid. Particularly in times of natural disaster like this. However the Essential energy staff are always out in the most horrible weather doing what is needed to restore power to your home. So if you see the Boys and girls in orange about during or after cyclone Alfred, dont be afraid to so say G'day, and thankyou.

Got rooftop solar? Today’s the time to turn off it off before Alfred hits.

Every system will have slightly different steps, so consult your manual or the installer’s shutdown procedures, which can usually be found at the inverter and/or on the main switchboard. However, as a guide, most will advise to turn off the inverter AC mains isolator, which is usually found in the meter box: it’s very important to turn the AC mains isolator off first, and then also to turn off the photovoltaic (PV) array DC isolator which is usually found next to the inverter.

⚠️ Even if the network is not operational and panels aren't supplying the home, solar systems can continue to generate direct current (DC) power

⚡NEVER climb onto the roof to check or touch the solar system or its components – if there’s any damage, the roof can be live

🔌Treat all solar panels and cables as though they’re live and dangerous

💦 Never touch inverters, switchboards or other electrical equipment if it’s wet, or if you’re standing in water

With the popularity of people buying generators, it’s worthwhile mentioning generator safety.

Do's and don'ts of running generators
Follow these tips to keep you and your family safe when using generators.

Generator do's
Keep the generator outside. Never use it indoors.
Install a battery operated carbon monoxide alarm.
Keep the generator dry. Do not use in rain or wet conditions or touch it with wet hands. Protect from moisture by operating on a dry surface under an open canopy-like structure.
Plug appliances directly into the generator or use a heavy duty outdoor-rated extension lead that is rated in watts or amps at least equal to the sum of the connected appliance loads. Check that the entire cord is free of cuts or tears and that the plug has all three prongs, especially an earthing pin.

Generator don'ts
Never try to power the house wiring by plugging the generator into a wall outlet, a practice known as backfeeding. This is extremely dangerous and is an electrocution risk to utility workers and neighbours served by the same utility transformer. It also bypasses some of the built-in household circuit protection devices.

If you must connect the generator to the house wiring to power appliances, get a licensed electrician to do it in accordance with AS/NZS 3000 Electrical installations (known as the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules) and Energex or Ergon Energy requirements.

Avoid creating a fire hazard. Store fuel for your generator in properly labelled non-glass safety containers. Store out of the home and away from fuel-burning appliances such as natural gas water heater in the garage.

Before refuelling the generator, turn it off and let it cool down. Fuel spilt on hot engine parts could ignite.

Backfeeding
Backfeeding can happen when a generator is connected to your home wiring system without disconnecting from the Energex or Ergon Energy electrical system. The most common way this occurs is by directly connecting a generator to your electrical switchboard or to a circuit in your home.

Feeding power back into the electrical system during an outage will energise the transformer serving your house. This is an electrocution hazard for Energex or Ergon Energy line crews and for your neighbours. If power is restored while your generator is backfeeding, it may severely damage the generator.

Avoid backfeeding by always keeping generator power and Energex or Ergon Energy electrical system isolated from each other.

Portable generators
Usually connected directly to an appliance or piece of equipment through its plug and supply cord. There is no path back to the electrical switchboard. Changeover switches are available to safely connect portable generators to building electrical systems.

Permanent generators
Isolated from the electrical system with a changeover switch installed between the generator and the electrical panel. The changeover switch allows power to feed from only one source at a time. A licensed electrician must install a changeover switch.

The AAE Industries team this week installed undergrounds in a region with extremely high levels of naturally occurring asbestos. To maintain the safety of not just our team but also the local community, we teamed with Prodrill Australia to under bore the installation, removing any need for surface excavation and the risk of disturbing asbestos in the ground. Our great friends at Ecoteam were also on site installing and monitoring air quality meters to ensure no airborne asbestos particles were detected.

For those who haven’t seen a directional drill in action, this incredible machine has a steerable drill head that pushes its way underground, and then uses its immense power pull the required pipe or conduit back through the hole. This particular installation was only a 63mm conduit over 100m, however Prosdrills machine drilled and installed 400mm pipe over hundreds of meters just days before.
