Three structural beams. That’s what it takes to turn a closed-in kitchen into a space that breathes.

Not every job is tapware and tiles. Sometimes the real work is the part that disappears behind a ceiling — the steel, the LVL, the engineering that lets a wall come out so a family can actually live the way they want to.

This one opened a rear alfresco straight through to the kitchen and dining. Now the cooking, the eating, the kids, the pool — it’s all one connected space.

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. That goes double for the parts no one will ever see.

Two months. 107 frames. Slab to windows-in.

There’s something about watching it all speed up — the slab going down, the frame rising, the roof closing over, glazing sliding into place. What takes weeks on site plays out here in a few seconds, and you get to see the shape of it all at once: the sequence, the rhythm, the way a house on a steep block in the Hills finds its footing one careful step at a time.

Every frame is a day someone showed up and did the work properly. That’s the part the timelapse can’t quite capture — but it’s in there, in every join and line that landed square.

Windows in — and isn’t that view magnificent. 🌿

There’s a particular kind of satisfaction in the moment glazing goes into a frame like this. Suddenly the space stops being a shell and starts borrowing the landscape it was designed around. Steel and timber framing, a raking ceiling that follows the roofline, and now a wall of glass drinking in the greenery beyond.

The mezzanine is in situ too — sitting patiently, waiting on insulation and then plasterboard before it really comes to life.

Battens down, membrane sealed, and the roof plane finally reads the way it did on paper.

SOLITEX MENTO PLUS doing the quiet work underneath — the layer nobody sees once the roof’s on, but the one that keeps this home dry as a bone for the next fifty years. On a site this steep, every counter-batten and every lap matters. There’s no hiding a shortcut up here.

This is the part of the build we love showing. Not because it’s flashy, but because it’s honest. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.

There’s a stage in every build where the bones tell you everything.

No linings. No finishes. Just timber, sheathing, and light — and the honest geometry of a roof pitched hard against a steep site.

This project is at that stage now. Standing up here, under the rake of these rafters with the bush framed through every opening, you can already feel the rooms that aren’t quite there yet. That’s the part that never gets old.

Timber frame, done properly, on a block that gave us nothing easy.

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept — and this frame is one we’re proud to stand under. 🌿
