Queensland Tennis Centre was the first facility in the state to feature all three 'Grand Slam' surfaces: grass, clay, and acrylic hard court.

Protecting the championship show courts meant meeting strict international tennis standards for height clearance, while still shading spectators with hypar structures around the courts.

Fabritecture's solution: two identical turtle-back shaped PTFE canopies, framed with curved CHS arches and held up by just four corner columns each, maximising coverage while keeping sightlines clear for spectators.

A FIFA-accredited sports field, on top of a multi-level car park.

At Queensland University of Technology, the pitch is surrounded by a PTFE fabric membrane and fall-arrest mesh, keeping players safe at height without compromising the field itself.

Fabritecture designed and constructed the steel, PTFE membrane, fall arrest mesh, static line, and scoreboard, working alongside ADCO as project contractor.

This carpark facade at Westfield Newmarket in Auckland is made up of thousands of diamond-shaped aluminium panels, turning what's usually the most forgettable part of a shopping centre into one of its best-looking.

It's not just decorative either: the pattern also works as a visual screen for the car park behind it.

Warringah Mall's atrium roof is built to look like glass, at a fraction of the weight.

Four single-skin ETFE roofs spanning around 4,260sqm, installed as part of the centre's $310 million redevelopment.

Underneath, roughly 9km of aluminium louvres let natural light flood through while casting a shifting pattern of shadow across the atrium floor below.

The project won a 2017 STA Special Commendation Award.

At Wigley Reserve in Glenelg North, South Australia, the playground shade canopy doesn't rely on a rigid frame at all. It's held entirely by a grid of stainless steel cables.

The cable-net structure spans around 240sqm, with shade panels supported within the cable grid sheltering roughly 170sqm of play space below.

The design won an IFAI Outstanding Achievement Award in 2021, for tensile structures under 600sqm.

Eleven manta rays, hand-stitched from recovered ghost nets, hang beneath the ETFE canopy at Barangaroo South - the work of Ghost Net Collective and Erub Arts, led by artist Lynnette Griffiths.

The installation, Mermer Waiskeder: Stories of the Moving Tide, has just been named a finalist for the Property Council of Australia's Innovation and Excellence Award, Best Public Art Project category.

We were proud to be part of bringing this piece to life at Barangaroo by installing the artwork on the canopy, and it's wonderful to see this kind of cross-cultural collaboration recognised. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Perth's Capital Square Podium sits on the old Emu Brewery site, on the corner of Mount and Spring Streets, now home to a very different kind of rooftop.

Fabritecture built the circular Ferrari Soltis 381 mesh shade structures across the Podium's rooftop terrace, giving the gym, pool, and auditorium daytime shade that switches to ambient LED lighting after dark. We also installed the aluminium louvers over the pool, providing shade and privacy for swimmers below.

The wider development targeted three separate 5-star Green ratings across design and energy, a strong sustainability benchmark for a project of this scale.

An outdoor performance venue has to solve two different problems: survive the weather, and still sound good.

At Missouri State University, the John Goodman Amphitheatre needed a canopy that could handle rain, wind, and sun while also managing sound absorption for concerts, plays, lectures, and outdoor classes. Fabritecture used PVC TX30 fabric across the 6,792 sq ft canopy, durable enough for the elements, and suited to the acoustic demands of the 350-seat performance space.

The project went on to win an STA Special Commendation Award for internationally fabricated projects.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium's roof takes its shape from a plant. Its horseshoe cantilever design was inspired by the post-buckled leaf geometry of the pandanus.

The cantilever extends 40m over the seating, shading around 75% of the crowd, and is engineered to handle the hurricane-force winds Townsville is known for.

Fabritecture designed and constructed the PTFE cladding on the roof trusses, along with the tensile fabric 'kites' at the rear of the trusses in TX30-III PVC. The main roof surface itself isn't fabric — our scope covers the truss cladding and kites.
