Looks simple enough (it’s not.)
Ironically, getting a natural-looking layout takes quite a bit of planning.
Using different sizes, avoiding an obvious repeat and keeping the pattern moving through the space gives you that more organic, considered finish.
You’re constantly looking at what’s coming next, making sure the same sizes aren’t bunching together or creating a pattern you never intended.
At Gray Tiling, we work out the general pattern and how the different formats will run before we start laying. It gives the team a plan to work from and avoids having to solve problems halfway through the floor.
When it’s done properly, your eye isn’t pulled towards any one line or obvious repeating pattern.
It means thinking about where the joints land, how the different formats sit together and what’s coming next, so the finished layout feels natural rather than overly planned.
