๐ฆ Mozzies love standing water... everybody hates mozzies ๐
Warm, humid weather and storm season means mozzies are here ready to annoy the heck out of you. If you spot tiny wriggling worms in standing water that dive when you get close, theyโre most likely mosquito larvae, and they can be biting adults within a week or so ๐ฌ
A quick check around the yard, especially near your outdoor living areas, makes a big difference:
๐ง Remove standing water: empty buckets, containers, toys and anything else collecting rainwater
๐ชด Check your pot plants: make sure pots drain properly and tip out any water sitting in the saucers
๐บ Donโt forget bromeliads: they hold water in the centre of the plant, so flush them out with the hose regularly
๐ Clear your gutters: blocked gutters hold water and are easy to miss
๐ฆ Freshen up bird baths: change the water every few days and give them a quick clean
๐ฟ Keep gardens maintained: trim back overgrown plants around the house to cut down the shady spots adult mozzies like to rest in
๐ง๏ธ Check after rain: a quick walk around the yard after a downpour catches the spots youโd otherwise miss
