Finding signs of rodents around your home doesnโt always tell you straight away what youโre dealing with. While mice and rats can cause similar problems, there are some key differences.
๐ Mice are generally smaller, with a more pointed nose, larger ears and a long, thin tail.
๐ Rats are much larger and heavier, with a broader head, smaller ears in proportion to their body and a thicker tail.
๐ One of the biggest clues is what they leave behind. Dropping size, gnaw marks, grease marks, noises and where the activity is occurring can all help identify which rodent is present.
๐ Identifying the rodent matters too โ mice and rats behave differently, nest in different areas and can require a different approach to get the activity under control.
โ ๏ธ If you are hearing scratching in the roof or walls, finding droppings or noticing things being chewed, itโs worth getting the activity checked. Rodents can contaminate food and surfaces, damage wiring and building materials, and their droppings and urine can create hygiene concerns around the home.
