Schuster Park pathways are taking shape 👌

We’re nearing completion on this project at Schuster Park, Tallebudgera, working on behalf of Leaf Innovations.

The works have involved removing sections of the existing pathways that had been lifted by tree roots, before preparing and pouring new concrete paths through the park.

🌳Working amongst established trees and gardens is a lovely spot to work within. The new pathways are coming together beautifully — creating a safer, smoother and more accessible surface for everyone who enjoys this great local space.

A few finishing touches to go and this one will be ready to enjoy.

Pour day at Wirra Estate, Labrador 👷‍♂️

The OSM Concrete crew is on the ground this morning, getting another section down at Wirra Estate for Armada Built.

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes before concrete ever hits the ground — preparation, levels, access, coordination and timing all have to come together when it’s pour day.

Great to see this project continuing to take shape. 👌

A safer entrance with a fresh new look 👌

This residential project in Elanora involved removing and replacing approximately 124m² of exposed aggregate concrete, with a unique curved driveway that really sets the property off.

But this job wasn’t just about improving the look of the driveway.

You can see on one of the photos, the existing concrete slabs had been lifted by surrounding tree roots, creating dangerous uneven surfaces and a genuine trip hazard. It was only a matter of time before someone got hurt.

The old concrete was removed and replaced, giving the homeowners a safer, smoother, modern and much more inviting entrance to their property — while working with the existing trees and curved layout of the site.

We reckon the finished exposed aggregate came up beautifully. 👌

WHY DOES CONCRETE CRACK? 🤔

Concrete is built to last, but even a good driveway, path, patio or car park can develop cracks over time. And here on the Gold Coast, our climate and ground conditions can certainly put concrete to the test.

So, what causes cracking?

☀️ Heat & temperature changes
The sun can cause concrete to dry too quickly during curing, while ongoing temperature changes cause concrete to naturally expand and contract.

🏠 What's underneath matters
Poorly compacted ground or movement in the soil beneath your driveway can lead to uneven settlement — putting stress on the concrete above.

💧 The concrete mix
Too much water in the mix can increase shrinkage and ultimately result in weaker concrete.

🔩 Reinforcement
Correctly installed reinforcing mesh helps your concrete, especially driveways cope with loads and movement.

📏 Control joints
Those lines you see cut into concrete aren't just for looks! They're deliberately positioned to help control where natural movement and cracking occurs.

🚙 Heavy loads
Regular heavy vehicle or equipment traffic can put more pressure on the concrete than it was originally designed to handle.

🌳 Tree roots
Growing roots beneath or alongside concrete can eventually lift and place considerable pressure on the concrete.

🏗️ Progress continues at Wirra Estate.

We're proud to be installing premium exposed aggregate concrete throughout this high-end townhouse development in Labrador. The exposed aggregate finish complements the contemporary architecture while providing a durable, low-maintenance surface built to last.

There's still plenty of work ahead, but it's rewarding to see the project steadily coming together. We look forward to sharing more updates as we progress.
