💧 HIGH MOISTURE 💧 = ⚠️ A POTENTIAL RISK FOR TERMITE INFESTATIONS!

This high moisture meter reading is a great example of why moisture levels are an important part of a professional termite inspection.

High moisture around or within a property can create conditions that are highly conducive to termites. Termites require moisture to survive and areas with persistent or excessive moisture can provide an ideal environment for termite activity.

Why is this a concern?

High moisture can increase the risk of termite activity and concealed termite damage, particularly when moisture is present in areas that are difficult to see or access. It can also contribute to timber deterioration, fungal decay and mould.

A high moisture reading doesn't automatically mean termites are present but elevated moisture is an important warning sign that should be investigated further by a licenced plumber/applicable tradesperson.

🐜 CAUGHT ON CAMERA: ANT VS. TERMITE! 🐜

While inspecting a Termite nest today, we unexpectedly captured an interesting moment… a lone Ant attacking a vulnerable Termite!

Although they may seem like tiny insects simply going about their day, ants and termites are natural enemies.

Ants are predators and will actively hunt termites when given the opportunity. If ants come across exposed or vulnerable termites, they may attack them and carry them back to their nest as a food source, as Termites provide ants with a valuable source of protein.

Termites rely heavily on their colony and concealed galleries for protection. Once their workings are opened and the termites are exposed, they can become an easy target for opportunistic ants.

It’s not every day we get to capture a moment like this on camera!

It’s a fascinating (and slightly brutal) example of the natural interactions that can occur between ants and termites.

📢‼️TERMITE SWARMING SEASON IS NEAR ‼️📢

While Termites are active all year round, this time of year marks the beginning of Termite Swarming season across Southeast Queensland.

From late September through to early October, we generally start to see an increase in swarming Termites (Termite alates).

When a Termite colony reaches maturity and conditions are right, reproductive Termites known as alates or winged Termites, leave their existing colony in search of a mate and a suitable location to establish a new colony.

Swarming activity commonly occurs following rainfall and warm, humid conditions, which is why this time of year can see a noticeable increase in Termite activity.

Soon, you may notice these winged termites around your yard, near outdoor lights, or even inside your home, as they are attracted to light. You may also find discarded wings around windows, doors, light fittings or other areas of your home.

So, should you be concerned?

Finding Termite alates does not necessarily mean your home is infested. However, it can indicate that an established termite colony is located nearby, potentially within a few kilometres of your property. For this reason, it is important to stay proactive and keep your Annual Termite Inspections up to date.

Early detection can help identify Termite activity before significant damage occurs.

Rodent exclusion job completed in Gleneagle! 🐀

We previously completed a baiting program at a duplex in Gleneagle to eliminate an active rodent infestation.

Now that the infestation is no longer active, it’s time to shift the focus to exclusion - which helps prevent a reinfestation from occurring.

Today, as part of that exclusion work, Tayla installed Weepa Weep Hole covers to reduce the number of easily accessible entry points around the property.

Weep holes are essential for allowing moisture to drain from brickwork but unfortunately, they can also provide easy access for not only rodents, but also cockroaches, snakes, wasps and other unwanted pests.

Weep hole covers are a great exclusion method because they provide a long-term, discreet barrier against pest entry, while still allowing the weep holes to perform their very important function of drainage and ventilation.

Rodent control isn't just about removing the problem, it's also about helping to prevent the problem from coming back!

Jason and Tayla completed another successful Termite Chemical Perimeter Treatment on a property in Holmview yesterday.

This property required soil replacement throughout most of the treatment areas due to a significant amount of rock and concrete mixed through the existing soil. Soil replacement is necessary in this instance to ensure the chemical treatment could properly bond with the soil and provide effective protection.

We take the time to properly prepare and treat each property to ensure the best possible termite protection and long-term results.

It’s not always about selling a pest treatment but it is always about finding the right answer! 🔍

Last night, a client reached out to us after discovering a small beetle-like pest inside her home and wanted our help identifying exactly what she was dealing with.

The photo she sent through was a little blurry, and because several beetle species can look incredibly similar, we didn’t want to simply guess.

So this morning, we collected a few dead specimens from the client and took it back to examine under a microscope. 🔬

By taking a closer look at the fine details, particularly the differences in the antennae; we were able to accurately identify the pest and more importantly, provide our client with the right advice on how to deal with the infestation without the need for chemical treatment.

For us, it’s about helping our clients find the right solution, not selling them a pesticide service they simply don’t need.

Sometimes the best pest control service is knowing when not to spray.

Honest advice, proper identification and the right solutions.

Yesterday, Jason and Tayla attended a termite conference/seminar as part of our ongoing professional development, strengthening our commitment to staying current with the latest research and best practices in termite management.

The session focused on advancing our understanding of termite biology, foraging behaviour, and contemporary treatment methods, with a strong emphasis on how new scientific findings are shaping more effective and targeted control strategies in the field.

A key part of the experience was the opportunity to hear directly from leading experts, including Dr Theo Evans from the University of Western Australia and Dr Johnalyn Gordon from the University of Florida. Their presentations highlighted recent developments in termite ecology and behaviour, as well as how the change in climate is affecting Termite activity.

Events like this play an important role in ensuring our knowledge remains current and evidence-based. By engaging directly with researchers at the forefront of termite science, we are better equipped to refine our practices, adopt improved treatment techniques, and provide more effective, informed solutions in the field.
