More going on beneath this slab than meets the eye.

At Coles + Liquorland Meadowbank, Structum is delivering the complete topping slab package, survey and set-out, formwork, reinforcement and concrete placement.

A key feature is the specialist acoustic isolation system beneath and around the slabs, designed to minimise vibration transfer from forklifts and day-to-day store operations into the residential apartments above.

The works are being delivered across four carefully sequenced pours to coordinate with cool-room construction, site access and the materials hoist.

Another example of where good concrete delivery starts well before the pour.

Team Spotlight | Jim Farmakis.
As Co-Founder and Construction Director of Structum, Jim Farmakis has helped shape the business for more than two decades, building a reputation for delivering technically challenging structural concrete and refurbishment projects.

With extensive experience across construction, engineering and property development, Jim brings a practical understanding of project delivery, from estimating and contract administration through to client management, construction methodology and on-site ex*****on.

Today, Jim leads Structum’s project delivery team, providing strategic direction across construction operations and ensuring projects are meticulously planned, well coordinated and delivered to the high standards our clients have come to expect.

He is particularly recognised for solving complex construction challenges, working collaboratively with clients, consultants and project teams to develop practical, buildable solutions that minimise risk and maximise project outcomes.

For Jim, successful construction is about far more than delivering what is shown on a drawing.  It is about understanding the client’s objectives, assembling the right team, anticipating  challenges before they arise, and creating long-term value through quality workmanship, innovation and trusted relationships.

Equally important is Jim’s commitment to developing Structum’s people and processes.  By sharing his experience, establishing clear standards and encouraging accountability, he is helping build a team capable of delivering increasingly complex projects with confidence and consistency.

Leading with experience. Delivering with certainty. Building confidence through technical expertise, practical solutions and trusted project delivery.

💡Did you know?
Concrete doesn’t just consume resources, it can also provide a valuable second life for materials that might otherwise become waste.

Recycled aggregates from construction and demolition, together with supplementary cementitious materials such as slag and fly ash, can replace a portion of the virgin materials traditionally used in concrete.

The result can be less waste, reduced demand for new resources and lower embodied carbon.

At the scale concrete is used globally, finding productive uses for existing materials is an important part of making it more sustainable.

Complex work starts well before anyone gets on the tools.

At the iconic 33 Alfred Street, Sydney, Structum was engaged by repeat project partner Asentis to create a series of complex circular stair penetrations across seven levels of the existing building.

With challenging interfaces, significant work-at-height risks and tight delivery timeframes, the success of the package came down to what happened before construction began.

◼️Detailed pre-planning.
◼️Collaborative safety workshops.
◼️Clear sequencing.
◼️And a team that understood exactly how the works needed to come together.

That preparation allowed the works to be delivered safely and efficiently within a highly constrained construction environment.

Another complex package successfully delivered with Asentis — a relationship we’re proud to continue building.

Skilled trades don’t guarantee a smooth build. Coordination does.

Most issues on site don’t come from a lack of capability. They come from the gaps between trades, where handovers and timing aren’t quite aligned.

Good people are the starting point, not the whole answer. What actually keeps a project moving is getting the right people in the right place at the right time.

Some projects cannot be spoken about in detail, but they still say a lot about the capability required to deliver them.

This package involved complex structural upgrade works within a sensitive live environment, where access, sequencing, safety, coordination and quality control all had to be managed carefully.

These are the projects where Structum is at its strongest: resolving complexity, protecting operations and delivering with control.

Industrial Refurbishment | Alexandria

Looking back on our first project with Shape, and a great one to kick off the relationship.

Structum completed approximately 3,500m² of concrete topping slabs inside an existing industrial building, poured in a checkerboard sequence using Danley Hyper ArmourMate and WavePlate joints.

With robotic equipment operating on the finished floor, tolerances were tight and the finish mattered.

A great example of concrete experience showing up in the detail.

Concrete doesn’t burn.
Full stop.
It shields timber, protects steel, and keeps buildings standing when it matters most.

At Structum, safety isn’t an add-on, it’s engineered in from day one.

There’s a moment on every site when the concrete truck arrives. To most, that’s where the work begins.

To us, it’s where preparation is proven.

The result is locked in long before the pour, by the precision of the formwork, the integrity of the reinforcement, and the discipline of the planning behind it.

Structum builds what others can’t see. So the finished structure speaks for itself.

Safely. Precisely. On program.
