During her last school assembly, she gave me a lil shoutout - so here is one much more deserved!
Last Friday marked the end of an era for the canteen operating at Bluff Point Primary School. It was also the closing chapter for a very much loved and long-time employee - it was time to hang up her apron for the last time.
That employee is my Mum!
27 years of service! Always doing her role with grace and kindness - that I’m sure all the kids and staff from the last 27 years will fondly remember.
Mum would greet everyone with such an infectious smile, especially when those roller doors went up for recess and lunch each day ready for the lines of excited kids waiting to be served. With every fun interaction filling her cup!
While 27 years of service is quite the achievement, there is a bit more to this legacy that this amazing lady will leave behind. She was the champion fundraiser for the school in 1998 and I believe she still holds the Bluff Point record for funds raised for the school.
Taking from Mums example, both Keishia and I held honourable roles in leadership, as Head Girl (Keishia), School Councillor and Red Faction Captain (Me) when we attended Bluff Point. And when we left for High School, Mum took on the role of Canteen Manager in 1999 and remained as the coolest Canteen lady ever!
She made many lifelong friends and work colleagues and even served the kids of some of the former students from her early years!
Mum, you have made us all so very proud of you and what you have achieved during your time running the Bluff Point Canteen. You’ve shown us that when you do a job you really love you won’t work a day in your life.
While it was a sad end to an era and a long working career, it was an honour to watch you be thanked by a school you put so much into.
As they say, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened and cherish the memories you’ve made along the way!
Thanks for being a great human and showing us the importance of always showing up, spreading kindness and lending a hand when needed!
Happy Retirement Mum, we love you and can’t wait to see how you will fill your days… and I can proudly say MY Mum is pretty cool!
