With the warmer spring weather finally arriving across Geelong, you are probably noticing more webs appearing around your windows, eaves, and outdoor furniture. 🕷️🌸
Spring is the peak breeding season for common local spiders. Black House spiders are busy building dense webs around windows, while Redbacks look for dry, protected spots like vents, fences, and underneath outdoor seating. If left unchecked now, a few webs can turn into a major nuisance as we head into summer.
If you are seeing spider activity around your home, here is what you can do to keep your family and pets safe:
🌿 Clear the Perimeter: Trim back vegetation, bushes, and garden beds away from the immediate edge of your house so spiders have fewer places to hide.
🪟 Seal Entry Points: Make sure there are no gaps around your insect screens on doors and windows to stop "running" spiders like White-tails and Huntsman from getting inside.
🧹 Check Outdoor Items: Always check under the BBQ, patio furniture, and children’s play equipment before use, as these are favourite hiding spots for Redbacks.
