A grand staircase, inspired by a classic film, was where the story of this home began.
Designed and documented between 2014 and 2018, our Gone with the Wind House in Lara grew from a memorable client brief: a staircase reminiscent of the one in the 1939 film Gone with the Wind.
As you take the tour, look up. Above the custom staircase and balustrade, a beautiful plaster dome frames an enormous suspended chandelier. Behind the stairs, three custom sandblasted windows, created by a local artist, depict the granite ridges of the You Yangs—bringing a connection to the surrounding landscape into this grand space.
That attention to detail continues throughout the two-storey home. Wraparound verandahs on both levels feature traditional concave roofs, timber posts and custom arched, double-hung timber windows. On the ground-floor verandah, custom tessellated tiles add pattern and texture, with classic red brick veneer forming the backdrop.
The tour finishes in the detached, single-storey pool house, which carries through the architectural style of the main home. Inside, Tadelakt-finished walls surround a custom in-ground concrete pool, creating a space that feels serene and luxurious.
From the drama of the staircase to the calm of the pool house, this is a home shaped by a love of traditional detail.
