From 4am crowing to Sunday fry-up 🐓➡️🌭

We turned our excess roosters into proper English breakfast bangers — lean rooster, pork back fat, sage and white pepper in natural hog casings.
Nothing wasted on this little patch.

Ghost Gully Produce is a small grower up the road in the Lockyer Valley doing lettuce and leaves, and they sell off the bits that don’t make the grade for $2 a box. 🦆
Nothing goes to waste — what’s too ugly for a shop shelf is a feast for my ducks. I get a cheap box of greens, the farm doesn’t bin perfectly good food, and the Muscovies lose their minds. Everyone wins.
This is the good part of living somewhere that actually grows food. Support a small local farm, keep good food out of the bin, $2 well spent 🥬

Beekeeping is a whole new game with varroa and also in a very different climate than the one we’re used to.
After a very very dry end of summer and beginning of autumn we’re feeding our bees sugar syrup to help them build reserves for winter.

Not my group but I joined, because finally !

Growing Communities Lockyer Valley just launched, a free online space for growers, gardeners and homesteaders out here.

Courses, permaculture chat, event updates, and community. Discussions with people dealing with the same bloody clay, the same dry, the same weather that can’t make up its mind.

People that are like minded and in the same area, but you don’t need to change out of your yard shoes to chat to them (that’s a very specific thing that I like 😂).

It’s via the Skool platform which is super easy to use and you won’t get bombarded by Ads and irrelevant stuff when you hop on.

It’s dry as f*ck and no rain in sight. So we’ve redone our entire water plan.
This tank was due to move as part of our reno’s but we’ve done it earlier as it’s now in a position to pump to it from the dam and be able to get water delivered easy. Our first delivery is scheduled for May 🌵🏜️😪
