Chameleon Upcycled Products

Chameleon Upcycled Products Chameleon Upcycled Products: unique, quality items made by young people using recycled materials.

Chameleon Upcycled Product is a social enterprise that provides a simulated workplace experience where vulnerable young people can learn carpentry and boiler making skills while also accessing job readiness training. In our workshop, we build custom, handmade furniture and items out of recycled materials. All items created are made at the hands of the program's trade mentor and participants using

recycled materials sourced from our community e.g. pallets, recycled wood and metal from building sites or demolished houses etc. Our team works with each young person to design, develop and create each quality custom piece. By supporting our social enterprise and buying one of our quality custom handmade pieces, you are helping a local young person develop their capacity for quality life and work towards a better future. Chameleon Upcycled Products is a gateway of Queensland Youth Services' Project Overhaul, an early intervention program offering youth aged 15 to 21 at risk of engaging in offending behaviour or disengaging from education with opportunities to reflect and work towards personal development via vocational gateways, case management and support. Each gateway provides training, development opportunities, mentoring and a connection to employers for our local youth. To find out more about Chameleon Upcycled Products or Project Overhaul, please call the team on 4410 9376, email [email protected] or visit https://www.qys.org.au/programs/projectoverhaul. This Queensland Youth Services (QYS) led initiative is funded by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources under the Early Intervention stream of the Safer Communities Fund.

Following posts about Townsville's NAIDOC Corporate breakfast, QYS Chameleon Upcycled Products, had an enquiry regarding the table centre pieces and whether they were available for purchase. After some negotiations Chameleon Upcycled Products custom made two centrepieces, the customer wanted to display the pieces in her work place to encourage acknowledgement of our First Nation people, and to use the display pieces to start a conversation. The customer advised she loved the visual impact of the design. Our customer is so pleased with her purchase she has ordered four more. Keep an eye out at Regional Qantas Link counters, you just might spot one of our creations.

Travelling Towards Independence.
One of the aims in Project Overhaul is to help our participants gain practical skills leading toward independence.
With transportation being one of the key factors and some of our participants not yet being eligible for drivers’ permits/licences, a push bike is a great option.
One of our participants received a bike from their support network and we used this opportunity to show Practical Learning Skills on how to put together and maintain a push bike.
