Sydneysiders📍

I’m running a small Sashiko workshop on Sunday 8th November. Yes, I know, ages away, but life gets busy and I only have 8 spots in each session, so if you wanna lock it in, now’s the time.

We’ll be making Christmas decorations with the beautiful Hydrangea design, with plenty of tea, cake and chat along the way. Sashiko is a slow, mindful craft, and I’ve always loved how it brings people together. It’s also a great skill to have up your sleeve for mending your own clothes.

Morning session: 10am–12pm
Afternoon session: 2pm–4pm
📍 Balgowlah, Northern Beaches

$75, all materials included. Drop me a DM with your email address and I will save your spot.

Before the Christmas onslaught begins, I'm running a small Sashiko workshop on Sunday 8th November, and I'd love you to be there.

We'll be making Christmas decorations with the Sashiko Hydrangea design, with plenty of tea, cake and chat along the way. Sashiko is a slow, mindful craft, and I've always loved how it brings people together. It's also a great skill to have up your sleeve for mending your own clothes.

There's a morning session (10am–12pm) and an afternoon session (2pm–4pm), and you'll find all the details in the flyer below. Spots are limited to 8 in each session, so if you'd like to come, just drop me an email (address in the flyer) with the session you'd like and I'll save you a place.

Seems like I’m having a shirt-sharing moment! Although this one I didn’t actually make, it’s a $12 thrifted Muji shirt in double gauze cotton, labels still on. I could not believe my luck! It was the perfect canvas to scratch an embroidery itch.

I started out with the idea of a ‘pared-down’ primary colour palette and hunted for embroidery thread in my local charity shop. The colours aren’t too far off what I had imagined and so I worked with what the thrifting gods provided.

The illustrations themselves are from a beautiful collection of embroidery motifs, “Zine of the Zodiac” by the incredibly talented Marilla Walker.

I started with Libra (that’s my sign) and then picked off my family’s signs: Virgo, Leo, Sagittarius, Aries, Aquarius. I really want to add them all eventually…. watch this space.

I’ve made a shirt! It’s the . It’s a toile so I do need to make an adjustment to the shoulders, probably by going down a size and grading out. I did use a really great YouTube video from The Big Sew Along to help me with the placket. I found her instructions really easy to understand. I’m also super happy with the fabric, not bad for a cheap second hand table cloth! Looking forward to making the real thing, this time I’ll be making the tie, all in a very jaunty tartan fabric that’s been in my stash for years and years!

A few photos of my latest toile, the Eik jacket by LA FEMME ROUSSE . I love the simple shape and design details.

Finished! Just in time for the Sydney spring weather 😂. Easily a wearable toile using my second hand quilt. I needed to make a couple of adjustments, the usual ones, shorten the waist and shorten the sleeves. I think I could have gone down a size but I like the relaxed fit. The final version will be denim with some interesting binding and pockets details… no doubt an epic wait for content lays ahead 😂
Pattern: Eik jacket

I’m such a procrastinator when it comes to posting! It’s no longer freezing in Sydney but hey ho….

Thanks for all your comments about my tablecloth linen shirt. I decided in the end to leave it alone and have happily worn it twice already! In order to scratch the embroidery itch I thrifted a shirt ($12, Muji, double gauze, label on!!) and here I go. I’m using the ‘Zine of the Zodiac’, a small collection of embroidery motifs by Marilla Walker, starting with my sign, Libra. Enjoying the last remnants of the autumn afternoon sunshine while listen to Alan Bennet’s audiobook, Enough Said.
