Warning! How safe is your electrical installation? ⚡️⚡️⚡️

A close call here this morning! A heater plugged in to a power-board caused an electrical fire to burn away next to the cot; luckily mum woke after hearing bub cough and everyone was ok!!!

How does this happen?

Especially in the colder months when we wheel out the heaters, power-boards are pushed beyond their limits and loads run through them that they are not designed to carry which can cause them to smolder and burn or throw in an ignition source like dust and debris and you have the perfect storm for an electrical fire; the electrical “arc” ignites. The safety switch is designed to trip in these conditions which it did preventing further ignition, though the fire had already started.

How can you prevent this?

✅ Avoid plugging appliances with heating elements - heaters, toasters, kettles etc. into power-boards
✅ Avoid overloading power-boards beyond their capacity (should be marked on power-board)
✅ Smoke detectors - ensure smoke detectors are fitted in compliant positions and most importantly WORKING!
✅ Ensure your electrical installation is as safe as can be - condition and age of wiring and components, fitting of safety switches and keeping electrical accessories free of dust and debris

A few shots of recent works in a warehouse complex, where we were tasked with splitting an existing tenancy into 2 separately metered supplies, as well as installing a new supply and switchboard to one of those tenancies. The splitting of tenancies also meant re-routing much of the existing cabling, in order to comply with current standards. @ Frenchs Forest, New South Wales, Australia

Along with a new Kitchen and bathroom, we did a complete lighting make-over including the installation of various styles of pendants as well as replacing/reconfiguring 65 Halogen downlights with LEDs. @ Freshwater, New South Wales

Some photos of recent works for Dad & Dave’s Brewing/Wildspirit Distilling. Part of these works included upgrading their distillery equipment, from single to three phase. We used a voltage regulator with a potentiometer to adjust the output from 0-100%, to enable fast and accurate temperature control. We also had some fun playing adult Meccano while we installed a bit of cable tray. @ Dad & Dave's Brewing

A recent switchboard overhaul we completed for a customer in Narraweena. Most switchboard upgrades require a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider to disconnect and reconnect your incoming service. Working live is not only extremely dangerous, it is also illegal. Contact Modus Electrical today for all you ASP needs. This switchboard upgrade consisted of;
☑️New consumer mains due to deterioration of existing cotton cabling
☑️Meter panel replacement including the removal and disposal of old asbestos panel
☑️New safety switches on all final sub circuits

Control board install for the boys at Troy Jones Plumbing this morning, complete with pumps and float switches. The float switches monitor the water levels in the pit and will energise the pumps, ensuring any build up of water will make it up the steep driveway and into the stormwater network. @ North Balgowlah
