Have Your Say on Cassowary Coast Stinger Nets
The Cassowary Coast, home to beautiful beaches like Etty Bay, Mission Beach, and Kurrimine Beach, attracts visitors year-round. But the presence of marine stingers like box jellyfish that pose a safety risk. To address this, stinger nets have been installed in key locations, providing a safer swimming environment.
However, hiring and operating these nets comes at a significant cost. Each year the cost to hire and operate the nets is over $500,000 including the seasonal lifeguard patrols. As these costs impact local ratepayers, it’s vital for the community to have a voice in the future of this service.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council is encouraging locals, tourists, and stakeholders to share their thoughts on the stinger nets service provision and suggest any feedback on how they can be utilised better. This consultation will run from Monday 14 April till Monday 5 May 2025 5:00pm.
