Great news for travellers planning a visit to the Ningaloo region this winter!
To help support Exmouth's recovery following Tropical Cyclone Narelle and address temporary accommodation shortages, the Shire of Exmouth has opened a new fully self-contained Temporary Campground, with bookings now available from 12 June to 30 August 2026, including the July school holidays.
This initiative provides additional capacity for visitors wanting to experience the incredible Ningaloo Reef, Cape Range National Park, whale shark season, and everything Exmouth has to offer while supporting local businesses as they continue their recovery journey.

Temporary Campground (fully self-contained) Now Open for Bookings
Following the Ordinary Council Meeting on 20 May 2026, the Shire of Exmouth has developed a temporary campground (fully self-contained) to alleviate accommodation shortages following Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
Unlike the Emergency Overflow Campground, the temporary campground is pre-bookable - bookings are now open for any date between 12 June and 30 August, including the July school holidays!
The temporary campground will close after 30 August, when accommodation providers are expected to return to normal capacity.
Important information:
Maximum Stay: 7 nights |$40 per night |up to 6 campers per site
There are no facilities provided at this campground (no water, power or ablutions) β campers must be entirely self-contained.
Camp sites are not numbered; this facility operates on a first in first serve basis.
One car per site (additional cars require additional sites).
