E. maculata grows naturally in heavy clay soils sometime in clay depressions which are inundated for short periods. I have found it will grow in a wide range of soils even sand. Best in full sun or light filted shade. Drought tolerant and survived -8c when I lived in Yass NSW. I have had this growing in my Brisbane location for nearly three years now and is about 1.5m x 1.5m but they can grow up to 3m. I have found that you can prune them hard and can keep them compact.
There are many colour variations, this one I'm referring to a purple

I have a number of these growing in my Brisbane garden and also had them when I lived in Yass NSW where they survived temps down to -8C.
A low growing form of Eremophila glabra, which makes a very easy care and tough ground cover plant. Named for the variation of flower colours, from yellow, orange to red, which contrast with the bright green foliage. Flowers throughout the year, and they are highly attractive to nectar feeding birds. Grows around 20cms high but spreads to a couple of metres wide, with the odd arching branch. Likes full sun, will grow in part shade, but the flower colour will be more red with more sunshine. Drought and frost tolerant.

I brought a cutting up from my Yass property and has been in the garden now for just over 2yrs. I have about three growing and some are now due for a cut back to rejuvenate as lower branch leaves are dying back a bit. Growing in a bed that has drainage and appears to be quite hardy having come through the wet past few years. Appears to get to about 1m to 1.5m andabout 1m spread growing at my Brisbane garden

Eremophila steeps point

This is a new plant in my garden and has started flowering at full speed. It looks like a E glabra to me but the tag says it must have been collected at Steeps Point. anyone have additional information?

I have grown this Eremophila in just about every place I have lived and it has always done well. Being grey leaf I was not sure how it would handle the higher humidity of Brisbane, but all the ones I have planted are doing well. From the photos you will see that it has grown taller than the 1.5m suggested in all the books.
With its wide flowers it attracts quite a number of bees.
Like most Eremophilas its best to give them a raised bed to allow for drainage. I find it flowers for most of the year.

This Eremophila I got from friends in Sth Australia. We believe it is a maculata but looks like a hybrid as the leaves differ from my other maculatas and has a different flower. As can be seen from the photos, it flowers well and the flower changes colour as it forms. The weight of the flowers are making the plant sag quite a bit so once flowering is over I will give it a good prune to get it back into shape.
It has been growing well at Everton Hills in a raised bed, looks like it will only grow to about a metre in height and is about !.5 m wide at the moment

Common Name: Wallum phebalium

Phebalium woombye is a small to medium shrub to about 2 metres high by 1.5 metres wide although completely prostrate forms exist. The leaves are oblong to elliptical, up to 50 mm long by 10 mm wide, green above and silvery underneath. The individual cream or pink flowers are five-petaled and relatively small but they occur in clusters of up to 10 and are very conspicuous.
Have this growing in my Hills garden, have found it fairly slow growing, but look nice when in flower. Taken today in my garden

After a trip out to Lowood the other week end for an Eremophila Study Group meeting, I came home with a collection of cuttings.Many I did as direct cuttings and some more difficult ones I have done grafts. Attached are some photos of the results plus one which I did a few weeks ago of the Eremophila from the SA/NT border region (grey leaf, red flowers put up recently)

Swamp Banksia

These have done well at my place, all but one I have grown from seed from plants I had growing at my Yass property. In Yass they only got frost burnt the first year and after that there were no problems even with the -8C temps. The new growth has a felty coating of brown hairs, which is an attractive feature. It naturally occurs in damp areas on sandy soils, but is very adaptable to a wide range of conditions and soils.
The photos show a group of them about two years appart.

Eremophila latrobei .......

The recent rains have caused a flush of flowers on my E. latrobei, this form from the SA/NT border region which I have grafted on to Myoporum insulare. I have also grafted this latrobei onto Eremophila "Big Poly" which appear to have taken. I have found Big Poly has done well in my garden, better than Myoporum.
