What does it really mean to build a high-performance home?

Join us for Foundations for the Future, an evening exploring healthier, more comfortable and energy-efficient homes through the principles of sustainable building and Passivhaus design.

We're delighted to welcome special guest Ben Sinclair, Founder of Base Haus and Treasurer of the Australian Passivhaus Association.

Ben is one of Australia's leading advocates for high-performance buildings and works with architects, builders and homeowners to deliver healthier, more comfortable and dramatically more energy-efficient homes.

Ben will explore the science behind the internationally recognised Passivhaus standard, why it is transforming residential building around the world, and how its principles can be successfully applied in Queensland's subtropical climate.

Ever wondered what actually makes a home comfortable through a Queensland summer or winter, without the power bill blowing out, or the mould creeping in?

Join us for the next Foundations for the Future community talk, Healthy, Comfortable, Energy-Efficient Homes, on Thursday 6 August at the Old Scout Hall, Eumundi.

Brett will walk through the fundamentals of thermal home performance, what actually makes a home comfortable and healthy through our unpredictable subtropical climate. Then special guest Ben Sinclair, Founder of Base Haus and Treasurer of the Australian Passivhaus Association, will dive into the Passivhaus standard and how it applies right here in Queensland.

On Saturday we had a wonderful time hosting our Hempcrete House Eumundi Workshop with a lovely group of curious participants eager to learn more about hempcrete as a sustainable building material, along with the broader sustainable design principles that shaped this home. 🌿

It was a special day for another reason too — Saturday also marked Ecolibrium’s 20th birthday! It felt incredibly meaningful to celebrate this milestone surrounded by wonderful people, in the home of our amazing clients, sharing ideas and conversations about sustainable design and living.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, and especially to Carmel and Phil for so generously opening their home for people to learn from and experience one of our favourite home designs to date.

This is a rare opportunity to step inside one of our completed sustainable homes in Eumundi and learn the full design process from start to finish.

Time: 9:00am – 11:30am

Join us for an intimate, small-group workshop where you’ll be guided through how this home was designed—from the very first site analysis through to concept design, material selection, and the finished result.

This is not just a tour. It’s a practical, real-life walkthrough of how thoughtful, climate-responsive homes actually come together.

You’ll learn how to:
• Analyse your site (sun, slope, breezes, privacy)
• Understand how lifestyle and values shape good design
• Translate ideas into a functional, well-performing layout
• Make informed sustainable material choices

You’ll explore the home, review real plans, and gain insights you can apply directly to your own project.
